000 AGXX40 KNHC 062001 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 401 PM EDT Wed Jun 6 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A slow moving frontal boundary is sagging southward through the northeastern Gulf. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are noted south of the boundary, from the central Gulf through central Florida. Generally light to moderate winds persist across the Gulf outside the area of thunderstorms. Seas are generally 2 to 4 ft. The frontal boundary will stall overnight then become diffuse. A surface trough will develop along the Yucatan Peninsula each afternoon, then drift westward in the the SW Gulf at night. Fresh to strong winds will pulse off the northwest coast of Yucatan and into the southwest Gulf from late evening to early morning each night. Moderate to fresh southeast return flow is expected to start off the coast of Texas by late Sun. Otherwise little change is expected. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A mid to upper trough extends from the Yucatan Channel across Honduras into the eastern Pacific. Upper divergence on the southeast side of this trough is supporting scattered showers and a few thunderstorms across the western Caribbean from the western coast of Colombia to northeast Nicaragua. Much drier conditions persist elsewhere from the tropical north Atlantic west of 55W to the central Caribbean. A tropical wave is analyzed over the central Caribbean, south of an Atlantic ridge along roughly 22N to 23N. 20 to 25 kt trade winds persist over the south central Caribbean, off the coasts of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia, with seas to 9 ft. Winds and seas over the south central Gulf will increase slightly Thu, as ridging builds over the eastern Caribbean in the wake of the tropical wave moving into the western Caribbean. The areal extent of these strong trade winds will increase as well, encompassing much of the southwest Caribbean by Fri with seas building to 14 ft. Pulses of strong east winds are likely off the north coast of Honduras as well by late Fri, as well as south of Cabo Beata on the south coast of Hispaniola. Winds and seas will diminish Sun as the next tropical wave moves into the central Caribbean, then increasing again in the wake of tropical wave early next week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A frontal boundary reaches from 31N75W to near Cape Canaveral Florida. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are active south of the boundary, building in intensity south of where the front intersects the Gulf Stream off the east coast of Florida. The Atlantic ridge is displaced southward to 22N/23N. Moderate SW winds are noted north of the ridge, and light to moderate SE winds elsewhere. Seas are 3 to 5 ft in open waters. The showers and thunderstorms will diminish as the front becomes diffuse tonight, and the ridge lifts northward through late Thu. This will also support fresh trades south of 22N, and pulses of fresh to strong winds off the north coast of Hispaniola during the overnight hours starting Thu night and persisting through early next week. The short duration of these pulses will limit significant wave heights to 6 ft in general. Elsewhere seas will be 3 to 5 ft in open waters. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
