000 AGXX40 KNHC 042000 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 400 PM EDT Mon Jun 4 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A ridge extends from a 1018 mb high center just northwest of the NW coast of Cuba to another 1018 mb high center near 25N91W, and continues northwestward to the central Texas coast. It is maintaining relatively tranquil conditions throughout the gulf. A weak cold front extending from northern Florida to inland southeastern Louisiana will become stationary across the NE Gulf and northern Florida late tonight, then slowly dissipate through Thu. A trough will form over the western Yucatan Peninsula each evening and move westward across the SW Gulf during the overnight hours as weak high pressure remains in place. Fresh to strong northeast to east winds will accompany the trough beginning Thu. East winds are expected to increase some over the far south- central waters and in the entrance to the Yucatan Channel Fri night through Sat night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... The present gradient between high pressure over the central Atlantic and broad low pressure over the SW Caribbean and central America is maintaining fresh to strong trades in the south-central Caribbean. These winds will briefly decrease in coverage Wed and Wed night. A tropical wave along 58W south of 14N will approach the Windward Islands tonight, then move into the far eastern Caribbean early Mon, and across the rest of the eastern Caribbean through Tue night. It will then track across the central Caribbean Wed through Thu night, and across the western Caribbean Fri through Sat night. The gradient between the wave and central Atlantic high pressure that will build westward beginning Thu night through Sat will allow for trades and seas to significantly increase across just about the entire basin including the Gulf of Honduras. Winds may possibly reach to near gale force south of 14N between 73W and 77W during this time. Winds across the Gulf of Honduras will expand northward Fri night through Sat night. Seas are forecast to build to around 14 ft in the south-central Caribbean Fri through Sat morning, then slowly subside through early next week. Seas are forecast to build to 10 ft or near 10 ft in the Gulf of Honduras on Sat. Saharan dust, as presently being observed in latest satellite SAL imagery and as seen in the CIMMS (SAL) depiction , is forecast to follow in the wake of the above mentioned tropical wave. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Weak high pressure is present over the area. A cold front will move across the far NW waters of the area tonight. It will then become stationary while gradually dissipating through Thu. Otherwise, rather weak high pressure elsewhere will be replaced by slighter strong high pressure that will build westward near 28N beginning Thu night. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
