A sharp mid/upper trough persists from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Yucatan Channel. This will continue to support scattered showers and a few thunderstorms over the eastern Gulf through late today. The mid/upper trough will start to become cutoff through late Thu, allowing the deep layer moisture over the eastern Gulf to taper off somewhat. By late Thu, troughing will form over the western Yucatan each evening and drift over the southwest Gulf overnight through Sat. Elsewhere ridging across the northern Gulf will maintain gentle to moderate SE winds through the remainder of the period. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Scatterometer and buoy data show fresh to strong trades winds off the coast of Colombia, and a swath of moderate to fresh SE winds over the northwest Caribbean between the Atlantic ridge and troughing over the Yucatan Peninsula. Scattered convection is noted over Nicaragua at the base of a broad mid/upper trough reaching from the central Gulf of Mexico to eastern Honduras. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are still active over portions of western Cuba. A sharp upper trough also extends from the central Atlantic through the eastern Caribbean. Dry air and subsidence related to this features is keeping the eastern and central Caribbean mostly cloud free. A weak tropical wave will move through the tropical north Atlantic today, and across the eastern and central Caribbean through Fri, but cause little to no sensible weather in the dry conditions. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A weak ridge extends along 27N, supporting gentle to moderate SE winds north of 22N and moderate to fresh E winds south of 22N, expect for pulses of 20 to 25 kt off Hispaniola. A high pressure center will develop along the ridge northwest of the northern Bahamas starting late Wed as a cold front moves into the waters north of 26N and east of 70W through Thu, before stalling and dissipating along 25N Fri.
