Subtropical Storm Alberto near 27.1N 84.4W 994 mb at 11 AM EDT moving N at 12 kt. Maximum sustained winds 45 kt gusts 55 kt. Alberto will move to 28.7N 84.9W this evening...inland to 30.3N 85.9W Mon morning...inland to 31.6N 86.4W Mon evening ...and inland to 33.6N 86.7W Tue morning. This system is currently supported at upper levels by a trough that extends along 87W covering the central and east Gulf waters and the Yucatan Channel. Latest scatterometer data depicts fresh to strong winds over the east Gulf near Alberto, moderate to fresh winds over the central Gulf, and gentle to moderate winds over the western Gulf waters. Wave heights across the basin are ranging from 12-16 ft near Alberto's center, 5-8 ft over the central Gulf and 2-3 ft for the western Gulf waters. Expect for winds and seas to decrease following landfall on Monday with ridging building in from the Atlantic. A strong trough will impact the southern waters Wed and Thu. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Subtropical Storm Alberto in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will continue to move N and away from the NW Caribbean. An upper-level trough extends from the central Gulf of Mexico, across the Yucatan Channel into the northwest corner of the Caribbean. Scatterometer data depicts moderate to fresh easterly winds across most of the basin except west of 80W, where gentle to moderate southerly winds prevail, and over the south Central Caribbean where fresh to locally strong winds are occurring. Wave heights range between 4-6 ft across the far east and west Caribbean, while 5-8 ft seas are between 69W- 74W. High pressure in the central Atlantic will maintain fresh to strong trade winds in the central Caribbean through the week. The strongest winds are expected over the south central Caribbean.
