000 AGXX40 KNHC 270742 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 342 AM EDT Sun May 27 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Subtropical Storm Alberto is near 24.2N 84.5W 1001 mb at 2 AM EDT moving NNE at 11 kt. Maximum sustained winds 35 kt gusts 45 kt. Alberto will move to 25.9N 84.6W Sun morning, 27.7N 85.6W Sun evening, 28.9N 86.4W Mon morning, 30.4N 86.8W Mon evening, and inland to 34.5N 87.6W Tue evening. Winds and seas will decrease in the wake of Alberto with Atlantic ridging building in across the basin Mon night through the remainder of the week. Model guidance shows a strong trough moving from the NW Caribbean into the S central and SW Gulf Tue night through Thu with an area of increasing winds and seas on the eastern side of it where the pres gradient will be the tightest. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Subtropical Storm Alberto is in the SE Gulf of Mexico near 24.2N 84.5W 1001 mb at 2 AM EDT moving NNE at 11 kt. Maximum sustained winds 35 kt gusts 45 kt. Atlantic ridging NE of the area is supporting moderate to fresh E to SE flow across the basin, except occasionally fresh to strong in the S central Caribbean. Little change is forecast through the week, except in the NW Caribbean where winds and resultant seas will increase and build Wed through early Fri as the pres gradient tightens due to a deepening surface trough. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The surface pressure gradient between Subtropical Storm Alberto in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic ridging may support increasing winds to near gale force in the Florida coastal and offshore waters this afternoon and tonight. Latest model guidance has trended upward for 10-m winds due to a tighter gradient with the forecast for Alberto shifting slightly eastward tightening it further. Will mention winds to 30 kt for now with occasional gusts to gale, but will need to monitor in case a Gale Warning is required, unless Tropical Storm warnings are officially issued by NHC instead for the Atlantic coast. Those conditions will improve by Tue as the pres gradient slackens. Central Atlantic ridging will dominate the basin in the wake of the influence of Alberto with more tranquil marine conditions in place through the remainder of the week. A cold front or frontal trough may drop into the NE waters Wed night through Thu, weakening and disrupting the ridge. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ013...N CENTRAL GULF INCLUDING FLOWER GARDEN BANKS MARINE SANCTUARY...
