Recently developed Subtropical Storm Alberto is centered over the NW Caribbean near 19.5N 86.5W at 2 pm EST with maximum sustained winds of 35 kt gusting to 45 kt. Over the SE Gulf, winds are moderate to fresh, and light to gentle elsewhere. Seas are in the 4-6 ft range over the SE Gulf, and 2-4 ft elsewhere. Alberto will move into the SE Gulf Sat and will intensify while moving northward over the eastern Gulf. The storm will reach 22.0N 86.2W Sat morning with wind speeds of 40 kt gusting to 50 kt, 26.7N 86.1W Sun morning with wind speeds of 50 kt gusting to 60 kt, 29.3N 87.9W Mon morning with wind speeds of 55 kt gusting to 65 kt, then inland near 31.0N 89.1W on Tuesday morning. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Outside Alberto, fresh to strong winds prevail over the south central Caribbean with moderate to fresh winds over the north central Caribbean as well as the eastern Caribbean. Over the tropical N Atlc forecast zones, gentle to moderate winds prevail. Seas are in the 6-8 ft range over the central Caribbean, 4-6 ft over the eastern Caribbean, and 5-6 ft over the tropical N Atlc forecast zones. Alberto will move into the Gulf of Mexico Sat evening, with winds and seas decreasing over the western Caribbean thereafter. Elsewhere, high pressure in the central Atlc will maintain fresh to strong trade winds in the central Caribbean through early next week with strongest winds along the coast of Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Latest satellite derived winds and seas along with surface observations indicate moderate to fresh winds south of 25N and gentle to moderate north of 25N. Outside the Bahamas, seas are in the 4-6 ft south of 25N and 3-4 ft north of 25N. Seas are in the 1-3 ft range west of the Bahamas. The moderate to fresh tradewinds are expected S of 25N through Mon, pulsing to fresh to strong offshore of northern Hispaniola during the afternoon through evening hours each day. SE to S winds will increase to fresh to locally strong W of 77W Sat night through Sun night as the pressure gradient tightens between Subtropical Storm Alberto in the Gulf of Mexico and high pressure over the area.
