A ridge over the northern Gulf coast will shift east through Fri ahead of a developing low pressure area expected to emerge off the coast of Yucatan Thu night. The low will drift N to approach the N central Gulf coast Sat evening, bringing fresh to strong winds and building seas to the eastern Gulf. The latest forecast continues to favor a consensus of the models (except GFS) with respect to track and speed. Considerable spread in the various models continues to persist. Convection and winds associated with this system are expected to be focused E of 90W. Winds and seas are expected to diminish on Sun and Mon as the low departs. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Ridging along 30N will maintain fresh trade winds in the central Caribbean. Strong winds and seas to 9 ft will be near the coast of Colombia through Fri. A broad area of low pressure centered near 18N87W will remain nearly stationary today, then move N into the Gulf of Mexico early Fri. Deep convection and highest winds will be displaced east of the low as it lifts northward due to an upper- level trough. A ridge over the western Atlc will maintain moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the basin this weekend. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS...
