000 AGXX40 KNHC 291933 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 333 PM EDT Sun Apr 29 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... High pressure over the northwest gulf extends a ridge southeastward to the Straits of Florida, while a dry cold front has pushed southward into the far northern gulf E of 91W as denoted on satellite imagery by a very narrow line of low clouds that stretches from 29N85W to 28N88W and northwest to 29N91W. The high will track northeastward and inland today, then move east off the Georgia coast on Mon with the ridge extending west- southwest across the northern gulf waters through Thu. The cold front will continue to move south through the rest of this afternoon and this evening while becoming diffuse. A weak surface trough will move off the Florida W coast tonight and across the eastern gulf Mon. The trough will be followed by moderate to locally fresh E to SE winds through Tue as it becomes diffuse over the north-central gulf. Fresh to strong NE to E winds and seas to 8 ft will develop over the far southeastern gulf and Straits of Florida beginning Tue, and continue through early Thu as strong high pressure builds southeastward over the western Atlantic resulting in a tightening of the pressure gradient over much of the southeast gulf. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A weak trough along the coast of Belize extending southward to 16N88W is slowly moving west. Only light isolated showers are possible with this trough. It will move inland this evening. A weakening old frontal boundary along 21N and east of 85W will dissipate tonight. Atlantic high pressure will maintain fresh trades across the entire area south of 17N, with locally strong trades across the south-central Caribbean along the north coast of South America through early Thu. The southern portion of a broad inverted trough will move into the eastern Caribbean Thu, and reach to south of Hispaniola on Fri. It is expected to be followed by a surge of fresh to locally strong E to SE winds, and accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms, possibly to impact most sections of the eastern Caribbean as well as the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico towards the end of the upcoming week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A weak cold front extends from 31N67W southwest to to 27N73W and becomes a weakening stationary front to central Cuba. The cold front will move slowly southeast and reach from near Bermuda to the central Bahamas tonight and from just east of Bermuda to 27N71W and stationary to west-central Cuba by early Mon afternoon. Scattered show and thunderstorms east of the front will continue to shift eastward tonight. A cold front from 31N77W to inland Florida near Port Canaveral will quickly move across the rest of the northwest portion through this evening, and across the north-central waters tonight and Mon before it merges with the weak front from near 28N65W to west-central Cuba Mon night. It will then become stationary from near 27N65W to west- central Cuba by early Wed. Strong high pressure of about 1029 mb will slide eastward near 31N Mon night through early Thu, resulting in a tight pressure gradient N of the front that will bring fresh to strong NE to E winds to much of the central and SW waters. The high should weaken enough on Fri to allow for these winds to diminish in coverage. A broad surface trough will approach 65W Thu and 70W Fri. In its wake, fresh to locally strong E to SE winds are expected. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will accompany the trough. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
