000 AGXX40 KNHC 052000 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 400 PM EDT Thu Apr 5 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The cold front that moved off the Texas coast and across the northwest gulf on Wed quickly progressed across the forecast waters since then, and as of 18Z this afternoon is analyzed as a dissipating cold front from just south of the Florida Keys to southwestward to near 23N90W. A trough is analyzed from just southeast of the Texas coast to the coast of Mexico at 18N93W. Latest satellite imagery shows broken to locally overcast low clouds with some patches of mid level clouds confined to the far western gulf waters from 24N to 28N west of 94W to just inland the coast of Texas. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are seen on mosaic NWS radar imagery to be located from 25N to 26N between 95W and 97W. Also, isolated showers are seen north of 27N between 89W and 92W. The cold front will gradually dissipate through Fri. A second cold front will enter the far northwest waters early on Sat, become stationary and weaken from southwest Florida to near Veracruz Mexico on Sun. The above mentioned scattered shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to increase some over the far western gulf through tonight. The front will dissipate by late Sun night. A third cold front is expected to reach the far northern gulf early on Mon, then temporarily become stationary before it is forced southward as a cold front by strong high pres that builds southward from the central U.S. It is expected to reach from Fort Myers to the NW Yucatan Peninsula and eastern Bay of Campeche by Tue night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to locally strong nocturnal trades will continue along the northwest coast of Colombia through Mon night. Fresh to locally strong easterly trades are forecast to resume across the Gulf of Honduras on Sat night. These winds will increase in coverage on Sat night. Otherwise, gentle to moderate trades are forecast elsewhere through Mon night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from near 31N69W to the NW Bahamas and to just south of the Florida Keys as of 18Z this afternoon. High pres is sliding eastward across the waters behind the cold front. The front is forecast to reach from near Bermuda to the central Bahamas this evening, then stall from near 28N65W to the central Bahamas on Fri. Strong northeast winds behind the front, north of about 28N, will shift eastward to the northeast part of the forecast waters by Fri evening while diminishing to fresh intensity. Seas are expected to build to a maximum value of around 9 ft before subsiding to less than 8 ft on Fri. The cold front will gradually dissipate through Sat as a ridge re- forms from near Bermuda to central Florida. Fresh to locally strong southerly flow will develop north of the ridge, mainly over the far northwest waters on Sat, then expand in coverage while shifting eastward across zones AMZ 113 and AMZ 115 Sun and Sun night. This winds are forecast to exit the far northeast portion of the forecast waters late Sun night in advance of another cold front that is expected to move across the northwest waters on Sat night. This cold front will reach from near 30N65W to the northern Bahamas on Sun night, then stall along 26N on Mon and weaken.
