Skies are clearing across the Gulf of Mexico behind a pair of cold fronts transiting across the region. The first front is over the southeast Gulf, reaching from the Upper Florida Keys to just north of the Yucatan peninsula, then is stationary to the coast of Mexico near Poza Rica. The second front reaches from near Sarasota Florida to 25N87W. Strong winds over the far northeast Gulf behind the second front are starting to diminish as 1021 mb high pressure builds behind the front over southeast Texas. Buoy reports in the eastern Gulf indicate seas are still reaching 8 ft, but will diminish through the afternoon. The ridge will shift eastward across the region through Sun. A trough will develop over the western Yucatan peninsula each evening through early next week. The trough will shift over the southwest Gulf each evening, allowing 20 to 25 kt easterly winds in the late evenings and overnight hours. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure ridge over the western Atlc will continue to support fresh to locally strong trades across the south central Caribbean the next several days. Winds will reach near gale force along the NW coast of Colombia during the overnight hours. Undersea volcano Kick em Jenny, north of Grenada near 12.18N 61.38W, is in a state of unrest. The government of Grenada advises mariners to observe a 5 km or 3.1 nm exclusion zone around Kick em Jenny. A cold front extends from 31N76W to the Upper Florida Keys, ahead of a stronger reinforcing front reaching from 31N79W to Cape Canaveral Florida. A 1430 UTC scatterometer pass indicated gale force winds over the area north of 30N and west of the stronger front, with seas building as high as 13 ft. The area of gales will shift eastward to 75W before lifting north of the area late today. Winds will diminish to less than 20 kt through late Thu as high pressure builds behind the merged front. Seas in excess of 8 ft will linger over the area northeast of the Bahamas through midday Fri due to northerly swell.
