A ridge over the northern Gulf will shift E through tonight ahead of a cold front moving off the Texas coast Monday. The front will extend from the Florida Big Bend area to Veracruz Mexico early Tuesday, just as a reinforcing push of cold air moves off the Texas coast. The reinforcing front overtakes the first front late Tuesday, accompanied by strong winds over the northern Gulf and building seas to 11 ft over the northeastern Gulf. The merged front will then sweep southeast of the Gulf by early Wednesday. Winds and seas diminish across the Gulf through late Wednesday as high pressure builds over the NW Gulf. The center of the high will shift east to the NE Gulf by Friday. A thermal trough that develops each afternoon over the Yucatan Peninsula and moves over the SW Gulf will interact with the high to the north late this week, supporting fresh to locally strong NE winds at night over the Bay of Campeche. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure north of the region will support fresh to locally strong trades across the south central Caribbean the next several days, except increasing to near gale force along the northwest coast of Colombia during the overnight hours. Seas will reach 9-10 ft under the strongest winds. A weakening cold front will pass through the Yucatan Basin late Tuesday night. The pressure gradient will tighten ahead of the front, allowing fresh to strong E to SE winds off the central coast of Honduras by Monday night. Seas will peak near 8 ft associated with these winds. High pressure will build north of the region late this week which will bring fresh to strong NE winds to the Lee of Cuba and the Windward Passage. Undersea volcano Kick em Jenny, north of Grenada near 12.18N 61.38W, is in a state of unrest. The government of Grenada advises mariners to observe a 5 km or 3.1 nm exclusion zone around Kick em Jenny. A cold front accompanied by fresh to strong winds and 8 to 10 ft seas will move across the waters N of 28N and E of 70W through early Monday. A trailing cold front will sweep eastward, reaching from Bermuda to eastern Cuba by Wednesday night. The front will then drift east Thursday through Friday. Near gale to gale force westerly winds are expected Wednesday and Wednesday evening behind this front. Winds will improve through Thursday as the low lifts away from the region.
