A cold front crossing the NW Gulf will move SE across the entire basin today, and then the Straits of Florida this evening. Brief gale force winds are expected behind the front over the far W Gulf during the daytime, and in the SW Gulf this afternoon until close to midnight. Strong northerly winds elsewhere in the wake of the front will diminish from the NW through tonight. Seas will build to 8 to 10 ft under the strong northerly winds, with seas peaking near 12 ft under the gale over the western Gulf this afternoon and evening. Seas will decrease with the decrease in wind speeds tonight. Lingering seas over 8 ft over the SW gulf will diminish below 8 ft by Tuesday morning. A ridge will extend from NE Texas to the Straits of Florida on Tuesday, then the center of the high pres will settle over the NE Gulf Thursday through Friday night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong trades will continue across the waters east of 80W, except for near gale force winds south of 16N between 65W and 75W, including the A-B-C islands through Tuesday night. These winds were confirmed by an earlier nighttime scatterometer pass. The strong winds will diminish in coverage and become confined to the S central Caribbean after Tuesday as Atlantic high pressure becomes centered E of 50W in response to an Atlc/Gulf of Mexico cold front. This cold front will enter the NW Caribbean tonight, reach from central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras Tuesday, stall from Hispaniola to Nicaragua Tuesday night, and dissipate by Thursday. High pres will build southeastward over the NE the Gulf of Mexico Thursday. This will support fresh to locally strong NE winds over the NW Caribbean for the latter part of the week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... An upper trough over the region continues to support clusters of showers and thunderstorms over the waters N of 24N. This activity will continue ahead of an approaching frontal system. A cold front entering the waters off NE Florida this afternoon will be preceded and followed by near gale to gale force winds N of 28N this evening through Tue morning. The front will reach from 30N65W to E Cuba Tuesday, stalling from 26N65W to E Cuba through Tuesday night. Another cold front may clip the waters N of 28N E of 75W Wednesday night and Thursday. This second cold front will merge with the stationary front N of 23N on Thursday, with the merged front then proceeding east of 65W through Thursday night.
