000 AGXX40 KNHC 041811 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 111 PM EST Sun Mar 4 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Latest satellite derived winds and seas along with surface observations indicate moderate to fresh winds around high pres located N of the area. Seas are in the 3-5 ft range. High pres will prevail over the forecast waters through Mon. A cold front will enter the NW Gulf Mon night. The front will shift across the forecast waters through the week, then SE of the area Thu. Fresh to strong northerly winds will initially follow the front in the Texas and Louisiana coastal waters, diminishing Tue and Tue night briefly, before a reinforcing surge arrives Wed through Wed night, diminishing slightly thereafter. High pres will build back across the basin for the end of the week, with fresh to locally strong southerly flow possible into early next weekend ahead of the next cold front. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Latest satellite derived winds and seas along with surface observations indicate gentle to moderate winds prevail across the forecast waters. Seas are in the 2-4 ft range, except 4-6 ft in the SW Caribbean. Over the tropical N Atlc forecast zones, seas are in the 5-7 ft range, however strong low pressure over the NW Atlc has generated a large and dangerous N swell that will penetrate the NE Caribbean Passages and Tropical N Atlc waters through late Wed, reaching the A-B-C Islands and coastal Venezuela. An associated cold front extending from Puerto Rico to just S of Jamaica will weaken and dissipate through Mon. Fresh to strong winds will develop over the Central Caribbean mid-week through the end of the week as the pres gradient strengthens there, approaching near gale offshore of the NW coast of Colombia Tue night and Wed night, and once again Fri night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Latest satellite derived winds and seas along with surface observations indicate gale force winds lingering in the NE portion of the SW N Atlc offshore waters, with fresh to near gale force W-NW flow elsewhere, except moderate to fresh SW of the Bahamas and S of 21N. Extremely large NW-N swells of 10-30 ft cover the entire basin, except 3-5 ft SW of the Bahamas. These swells have been generated by deep low pres N-NE of the area, with a trailing cold front still extending from 22N58W to Puerto Rico. The front will shift SE of the area today, while gale force winds shift E of the area by early Tue. The large swells will linger through mid-week. Another cold front may impact the waters E of Florida Tue night and Wed, then shift E of the area through Thu. Southerly flow ahead of this next front will be near gale force N of 27N starting Tue night. A reinforcing surge will rotate through Fri with winds near gale force again both ahead and behind the front N of 27N. High pres will build in the wake of the front by early next weekend with much more tranquil conditions, at least briefly. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
