A ridge dominates the Gulf region producing mainly a gentle to moderate anticyclonic flow with seas of 3-5 ft. Moderate to fresh east winds are noted in the Straits of Florida with seas in the 4-6 ft range. Winds will become southerly today across much of the Gulf region ahead of the next cold front forecast to enter the NW Gulf late on Sun. The front will reach a position from SE Louisiana to near Brownsvile, Texas by Sun evening, and from the western Florida Panhandle to the central Bay of Campeche by Mon evening, where it will stall and weaken. Fresh to strong northerly winds and buiding seas to 8 ft will follow the front Sun night and Mon. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Recent scatterometer data indicate fresh to strong NE-E winds across the central Caribbean, and in the lee of Cuba with fresh E winds across the eastern Caribbean, and moderate trades across the NW Caribbean. A pair of altimeter passes showed seas up to 12 ft across the south-central Caribbean. Strong trade winds will prevail across the east and central Caribbean, including the Atlantic passages this weekend due to the presence of a strong high pressure N of the area. Winds will reach minimal gale force near the coast of Colombia each night, particularly between 03Z- 12Z, with seas building to 17 or 18 ft Mon night and again Tue Night. On Mon, the fresh to strong winds will cover most of the waters S of 18N and E of 83W. Strong trades and building seas are also expected in Atlantic waters E of the Leeward and Windward Islands through Sun night, with seas building to 12 ft. On Mon, the strong winds will persist E of the Leeward Islands with seas of 13-14 ft in NE-E swell. Fresh to strong winds are also expected across the Windward Passage, and in the lee of Cuba today, then again late on Mon through Wed. Seas are forecast to build to 8 or 9 ft downwind of the Windward Passage and across the waters between eastern Cuba and Jamaica by early Tue morning. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Strong high pressure in the Atlantic will extend a ridge across the forecast area, producing fresh to strong easterly winds mainly south of 25N, including the approaches to the Windward Passage through early Mon morning.
