000 AGXX40 KNHC 051900 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 200 PM EST Mon Feb 5 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A stationary front extends from SW Florida to 25N87W to 27N95W to near Brownsville, Texas. Moderate to locally fresh NE-E winds are noted N of the front, with seas of 4-5 ft based on altimeter data. S of the front, mainly gentle easterly winds prevail, with seas of 2-3 ft. The front will dissipate as it continues to lift northward over the western Gulf through early Tue, ahead of another cold front moving into the northwest Gulf late Wed. Fresh to strong northerly winds and seas building to 8 ft will follow the second front mainly off the coast of Mexico as the front reaches a position from central Florida to the southwest Gulf by late Thu. This front is forecast to lift northward over the western Gulf while weakening by Fri. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure north of the area is supporting minimal gale force winds off the coast of Colombia. Seas are 8 to 11 ft over much of the south central and southwest Caribbean, and generally 5 to 7 elsewhere in the Caribbean. A couple of altimeter passes indicate seas to 9 ft E of the Leeward and Windward Islands with fresh to occasionally strong trades based on a recent ASCAT pass. These sea heights may be pushing into exposed Atlantic passages. The weather pattern will continue to support fresh to occasionally strong trades east of the Leeward and Windward Islands, accompanied by NE to E swell in excess of 8 ft. Building high pressure N of the area will bring an increase in the aerial extent of the fresh to strong trades across the east and central Caribbean, in the lee of Cuba, through the Windward Passage and in the lee of Hispaniola through Fri, with winds reaching minimal gale force near the coast of Colombia, particularly between 03Z and 12Z, each night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from 31N73W to south Florida. Fresh NW winds are noted in the wake of the front and seas to 8 ft. Fresh S-SW winds are also observed ahead of the front but N of 30W to near 70W. Winds are forecast to diminish on either side of the front over the forecast waters by tonight. A ridge dominates the remainder of the area with a weak surface trough across the SE waters. The front will reach from Bermuda to South Florida by late today, stall from 29N65W to the Straits of Florida late Tue, then dissipate by mid week. High pressure will build behind the front, supporting fresh to occasionally strong E winds south of 22N by mid week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
