000 AGXX40 KNHC 301814 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 114 PM EST Tue Jan 30 2018 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A ridge is building SE across the Gulf waters in the wake of a cold front currently moving across the NW Caribbean. Strong to near gale force winds are expected over the SW Gulf near Veracruz, Mexico today. Then, winds and seas are forecast to diminish from W to E across the Gulf region this evening and tonight. The ridge will shift E on Wed and Thu, allowing SE return flow to set up over the entire basing by Thu afternoon. The next cold front is forecast to enter the northern Gulf waters on Fri. Model guidance consensus suggests this front will stall, then dissipate over the central Gulf without generating gales near Tampico or Veracruz. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Model trends and latest GFS solutions continue to suggest that strong to minimal gale force winds will recur each night through Thu night near the coast of Colombia primarily late at night and into the early morning hours. A cold front extends from central Cuba near 22N80W to the Gulf of Honduras near 16N88W. The front will reach from eastern Cuba to the eastern Gulf of Honduras this evening, then will remain nearly stationary through Wed evening, then dissipate on Thu. Fresh to strong N-NE winds and building seas are expected NW of the front. Individual model solutions and ensemble model forecasts indicate this front will not be strong enough to generate gales to the E of Nicaragua. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from 31N70W to the SE Bahamas near 25N76W to central Cuba near 23N79W. The front will reach from 24N65W to the easternmost tip of Cuba by Wed evening where it will remain nearly stationary through Thu evening. A second cold front is nearing the coast of Georgia and South Carolina. This boundary will eventually dissipate but supply a reinforcing shot of cold air behind the front currently moving through the Bahamas. Fresh to strong NW-N winds will dominate the entire area west of the leading cold front, including the Old Bahama Channel by this evening. This area of winds will expand tonight as the reinforcing cold air arrives over the forecast waters. Similar marine conditions are expected early on Wed before the front begins to stall and weaken. High pressure in the wake of the front will dominate the region through Thu. Another cold front is forecast to arrive over the north waters on Fri afternoon. Model guidance suggests this front will stall and weaken in the vicinity of 26N. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
