A nearly stationary cold front reaches from northern Florida to a 1015 mb low pressure located near 25N93W. A strong cold front extends southward from the low to near Veracruz Mexico. Strong high pressure is centered over western Texas. A scatterometer pass at 0305 UTC showed a large area of 25-30 kt NE winds north of the front. A gale warning remains in effect across the NW Gulf for frequent gusts to gale force, including coastal waters. The low will drift eastward to near 27N86W Friday, with the front sagging southward in the eastern Gulf. Reinforcing cold air will push the front south of the area Fri through Sat, with gale force winds extending over several forecast zones west of 87W. Winds will increase to gale force in the west-central gulf today and over the SW gulf by tonight. Gale conditions will spread to the forecast zones S of 26N Fri. Seas to 12-15 ft are expected in the central and western Gulf through late Fri night, with a peak of 18 ft in the SW Gulf. Marine conditions will rapidly improve across the basin Sat night and Sun after the front exits. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Trade winds will remain fresh to strong in the central Caribbean today then diminish Fri, with 7-10 ft seas. Large NE swell from a low in the central Atlantic will reach the offshore waters of the Lesser Antilles today, with seas building to 10-11 ft by Fri. A strong cold front will reach the NW Caribbean Fri night, then push southward past Nicaragua to Costa Rica and northern Panama through early Mon. Strong northerly winds behind the front will be enhanced in the Yucatan Channel, possibly reaching minimal gale force. The front will extend from central Cuba to Honduras on Sat, from eastern Cuba to Nicaragua Sun, and from the Windward Passage to Costa Rica Mon. Expect winds of 25-30 kt over the NW Caribbean Sat with seas building to 12-13 ft. By early Sun, the strongest winds to gale force possible within 120 nm of the coast of Nicaragua, with seas building to 10-11 ft in this area. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A nearly stationary cold front is across NW waters from 31N79.5W to Jacksonville FL. High pressure prevails over the remainder of the area. Scatterometer data shows fresh easterly winds S of 22N east of the Bahamas. Buoy and ship observations indicate seas are 9-10 ft in this area. Winds and seas will diminish across the SE waters through Fri as high pressure shifts east. The front will remain nearly stationary through Fri, then reinforcing cold air will push the front SE into the Bahamas Sat.
