Surface high pressure covers the northern waters. Latest surface observations indicate gentle to moderate winds prevail over the forecast waters. Seas are in the 2-4 ft range. The area of high pressure will retreat eastward by Saturday. This will enable a cold front to move into the NW waters Sat night. The front will extend from near Sarasota to the SW corner of Gulf Sun evening. Fresh to strong N to NE winds will prevail behind the front, which will build seas to 8-10 ft. Brief gales are possible along the Mexican coastal waters Sun. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Broad troughing prevails in the W half of the Caribbean. The latest surface observations indicate gentle to moderate winds in the Caribbean waters, with gentle winds in the tropical N Atlc waters. Seas are in the 5-7 ft range off the coast of Colombia with an 8 ft maximum value near 11N78W, 3-5 ft elsewhere over the Caribbean, and 5-6 ft over the tropical N Atlc waters. The trough will drift E into the central Caribbean Fri and Sat, where it will stall and weaken through Sun. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A dissipating cold front extends across the NW waters. A surface trough extends across the southeast waters. Latest surface observations indicate moderate to fresh winds prevail west of the front, with gentle to moderate winds elsewhere. Seas are in the 5-7 ft range over the northern waters, 4-6 ft over the southern waters outside the Bahamas, and 2-3 ft west of the Bahamas. The surface trough will linger over the southeast waters the next few days, and will weaken this weekend as high pressure builds across the forecast waters. The area of high pressure will retreat eastward Sunday enabling a cold front to move into the NW waters.
