High pressure and light to gentle anticyclonic winds prevail over the northern Gulf. A cold front currently along the Texas and Louisiana coast will move into the NW Gulf today and extend from Pensacola Florida to Brownsville Texas by late tonight. The front will reach from Tampa Florida to 25N96W to Veracruz Mexico by late Thursday. Pulses of strong winds are expected between the front and the coast of Mexico through late Fri. The front will stall and weaken across the southern Gulf late in the week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A broad surface trough along 75W is the dominant feature in the Caribbean basin. Winds are east-southeast E of 75W, and northeast W of 75W in response to this trough. Seas are generally 3-5 ft. A surface ridge north of the area will retreat eastward by Friday as a cold front moves into the western Atlantic, allowing winds to diminish this weekend across the eastern and SW Caribbean. Winds and seas will increase in the NW Caribbean, especially the near the Yucatan Channel Fri night and Sat as winds surge across west-central Cuba. Elsewhere, a broad area of low pressure will slowly develop over the SW Caribbean through Saturday. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface trough extends northward from the Caribbean along 75W across eastern Cuba and the central Bahamas. Surface observations and ASCAT data indicate light to gentle winds over the northern waters with moderate to fresh winds over the southern waters. The surface trough will gradually dissipate through Thursday. High pressure will retreat eastward as a cold front moves off Florida into the into the northwest waters by late Thu.
