An earlier scatterometer pass indicated strong SE winds over the NW Gulf between high pressure over the NE Gulf and a stalled front over the Texas coastal plains. Seas were up to 8 ft in this area as well. Winds and seas have diminished through the evening as the high pressure has shifted eastward and the front has weakened. This trend will persist, with gentle to moderate winds and modest seas prevailing across the western Gulf through the remainder of the week. Light NE winds currently across the E Gulf will increase to moderate to fresh NE-E breeze today across the SE Gulf waters as a well amplified trough over the western Atlantic moves west through the Bahamas, tightening the pressure gradient across the region. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to strong NE to E winds are noted in the lee of central Cuba, between high pressure N of the area and trough moving W into Central America. These winds will diminish through early today as the trough shifts farther W and weakens. Moderate to fresh NE winds will persist across the NW and central Caribbean to late in the week, with winds pulsing to strong off the coast of Colombia overnight. Seas will remain around 4 to 6 ft overall. Winds and seas will diminish over most of the Caribbean and tropical N Atlantic as a trough passes westward to the N of the area. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A stationary front extends from near Bermuda to central Hispaniola. Fresh to strong winds are noted W of the front N of 28N.
