000 AGXX40 KNHC 291702 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 102 PM EDT Sun Oct 29 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The cold front that swept across the entire basin has exited the SE portion as of early this afternoon. Fresh to strong NW to N flow in the wake of the front over the SE half of the basin will diminish to moderate to fresh through the remainder of the afternoon, while remnant 7 to 10 ft NW swells subside through tonight. High pressure will build across the basin in the wake of the front, becoming situated over the Carolinas through the early part of the week where it will park. The high will induce mainly moderate E to SE flow across the basin through most of the week, along with 2 to 4 ft seas. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A surface trough extends from eastern Cuba to eastern Nicaragua in the wake of now distant Tropical Storm Philippe. Moderate to fresh NW winds are behind the trough, with light to gentle easterly flow elsewhere across the basin. Seas are 4 to 7 ft W of the trough, and 2 to 4 ft E of the trough. A cold front is moving into the NW portion, now SE of the Yucatan Channel. The front will reach the Windward Passage and extend to eastern Honduras by Mon afternoon where it will stall, while the trough reaches the central Caribbean at the same time. The trough will retrograde westward and merge with the stalled front by mid week, gradually dissipating through the end of the week. Meanwhile, an inverted tropical trough in the Tropical N Atlantic will move across the E Caribbean islands tonight, becoming diffuse over the E Caribbean through the early part of the week. Another inverted trough will move across the Tropical N Atlantic Wed through early Thu, then into the E Caribbean by the end of the week. Overall, mainly moderate to locally fresh trades and seas well below advisory criteria will prevail for this week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Tropical Storm Philippe is racing to the NE and will move N of the area shortly. Philippe will dissipate this evening while the remnants merge with a cold front currently over the NW portion. Currently this is a complex situation as not only are there tropical storm force winds associated with Philippe itself, but also well NE and SE of Philippe ahead of a trough which extends out from Philippe in both directions. Opted to not go with a separate Gale warning for those areas and to cover all 35 kt winds with the pre-existing Tropical Storm Warning. That being said, fresh to near gale force winds will follow the front, and occasional gusts to gale force are possible in its wake, especially N of 29N through early Mon. The front will very quickly reach from 31N72W to across the SE Bahamas to eastern Cuba by this evening, then will stall from 31N64W to the vicinity of the Windward Passage Mon night. Large seas in mixed swell currently across the NW portion of the basin will quickly subside once the front stalls with winds diminishing to 20 kt or less. The front will then retrograde westward as a remnant trough through mid week, becoming diffuse if not dissipating by the end of the week. Much more tranquil marine conditions are expected through the end of the week into the start of next weekend. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
