000 AGXX40 KNHC 260800 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 400 AM EDT Thu Oct 26 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The surface pressure gradient is tranquil. The cold front has moved out of the area. A 1022 mb high pressure is in Mexico near 22N99W. The latest scatterometer winds are showing moderate winds in broad surface anticyclonic wind flow. Earlier 8 to 9 foot sea heights are subsiding. The last area of 8 to 9 foot sea heights was from 25N southward between 85W and 90W. The sea heights will continue to diminish during the next 12 hours or so. Fresh return flow will begin in the NW Gulf midday today, ahead of another cold front that is moving into the NW Gulf midday on Friday. The front will reach from the Florida Panhandle to the SW corner of the Gulf of Mexico by midday Saturday. Winds will be funneling along the coast of Mexico, possibly reaching gale- force, and the sea heights will be building to 10 to 13 ft. The front will pass SE of the region on Sunday. It will interact with a low pressure area that is moving ahead of the front, from the NW Caribbean across western and central Cuba. The winds and the sea heights will diminish gradually across the Gulf through late Sunday, as high pressure builds again over the region. The forecast consists of gale conditions possible in the the west- central and SW Gulf on Saturday. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A 1008 mb low pressure center is about 100 nm to the E of the NE coast of Nicaragua in the western Caribbean Sea. Scattered to numerous strong rainshowers are within 90 nm of the center in the N quadrant, and within 130 nm of the center in the S quadrant. It is possible that the wind speeds and sea heights may be higher near the precipitation. Close proximity to land is likely to limit development of this system for the next day or so. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for the system to become more organized later this week as it moves slowly northward across the NW Caribbean Sea. It is likely that strong upper-level winds that are associated with an approaching cold front will prevent further development by Sunday. A cold front that extends from central Cuba to E Honduras is forecast to move SE, reaching from central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras tonight, then from eastern Cuba to near Cabo Gracias a Dios, Nicaragua by midday on Thursday. Fresh to strong N to NE winds and seas of 8 to 9 ft are expected behind the front. Moderate trades will persist elsewhere. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front extends from 31N73W across the central Bahamas and western Cuba into the Caribbean Sea. The front will reach from 31N69W to eastern Cuba by midday Thu, before stalling and weakening from near 31N60W to central Cuba through Fri and Sat. Fresh to strong winds ahead and behind the front are forecast to persist through tonight. On Thursday, mainly gentle to moderate winds will prevail on either side of the front with seas of 5 to 7 ft E of the Bahamas, and 1 to 3 ft W of the Bahamas, with the exception of 4 to 6 ft across the Straits of Florida. Looking ahead, another front will move off the coast of Florida by early Sun, possibly interacting with the broad area of low pressure currently located over the Caribbean Sea. This could bring an increase in winds and seas across the SW N Atlantic on Sunday. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ023...SW GULF S OF 22N W OF 94W...
