000 AGXX40 KNHC 080537 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 116 AM EDT Sun Oct 8 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... Hurricane Nate is making landfall tonight over Mississippi. The Hurricane will weaken to a tropical storm later this morning before it reaches near 32.1N 88.2W. Nate will continue to weaken as it moves well inland near 35.7N 85.3W by this evening. Large seas an strong winds associated with Nate will linger over the northern Gulf through today. By tonight expect winds to diminish below 20 kt and seas to decrease to less than 8 ft. High pres ridging will build in the wake of Nate for the early part of this week with more tranquil marine conditions anticipated. By Tuesday night, forecast models are suggesting that a cold front will reach the western Gulf and cross the western Gulf basin. High pressure building behind the front may produce strong winds along the Mexico coast west of 95W, including Vera Cruz on Wednesday. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Lingering low level convergence well to the southeast of departing Hurricane Nate and upper level diffluence is supporting showers and thunderstorms over the NW Caribbean this morning. These conditions are expected to improve through today as Atlantic high pressure expands westward well to the north of the region. As the ridging settles well to the north of the area early in the week, the area will be under a weak pressure pattern, with mainly gentle to moderate winds and seas of 3 to 5 ft forecast to dominate the Caribbean basin and tropical Atlantic waters through the middle of this week. A pair of tropical waves crossing the tropical Atlantic waters the next few days will support showers and thunderstorms. One of the waves is expected to reach the Lesser Antilles Monday, and cross the eastern Caribbean Tuesday and Wednesday. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge will dominate the northern waters the next several days supporting mainly moderate winds over the northern waters. A a trough along 68W/70W S of 27N continues to produce scattered moderate to isolated strong convection over the southeastern zones. A scatterometer pass this evening shows moderate to fresh winds associated with this trough. These winds will support seas of 6 to 7 ft as it slowly move towards the Bahamas through early next week while weakening.
