A weakening surface trough over the western Gulf supporting fresh winds over the northwestern gulf will dissipate through this morning. Associated seas to 7 ft will subside to around 4 to 6 ft by late this morning. Meanwhile, Nate which has recently been upgraded to a hurricane, is centered near 22.4N 86.3W as of 1030 PM CDT, and will move quickly northward over the Gulf of Mexico today, reaching 28.5N 88.9W this evening, then making landfall as a category 1 hurricane tonight over the north central Gulf coast. Wave heights will rapidly increase to 12 to 25 ft over the eastern semicircle in the path of the hurricane today. Once Nate is well inland over the southeastern United States on Sunday morning, seas will subside below 12 ft, then subside below 8 ft by Sunday afternoon. High pres ridging will build in the wake of the system for the early part of next week with more tranquil marine conditions anticipated. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Hurricane Nate was located near 22.4N 86.3W in south central gulf of Mexico as of 1030 PM CDT. Tropical storm conditions will end over the Yucatan Channel later tonight, with residual seas of 8 to 15 ft over the NW Caribbean and Yucatan Channel subsiding below 8 ft by late this morning. Moderate to fresh SE winds will remain over the NW Caribbean in the wake of Nate through tonight with seas of 5 to 7 ft, diminishing on Sunday. Elsewhere, mainly gentle to moderate E to SE winds and 3 to 5 ft seas dominate the basin outside of the influence of Nate. By early next week, ridging over the Atlantic will settle well north of the region, resulting in a weak pressure pattern over the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic waters with light to moderate winds and seas about 2 to 4 ft in the Caribbean waters, and 4 to 6 ft in the Atlantic waters. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Moderate east to southeast winds persist across the region, as high pressure builds north of the region. Upper level forcing is supporting scattered thunderstorms over the eastern waters, which is helping to induce a weak trough that will persist to the northeast of Bahamas over the next couple of days, along roughly 70W. The trough will drift westward into the Bahamas through Sun, but then dissipate. Seas nearing 8 ft will be possible along the northeast potion of the trough the next two days as fresh winds develop from 27N to 31N between 65W and 70W. Early to middle of next week, the ridge is forecast to strengthen slightly which will result in moderate to fresh easterlies north of 25N over the forecast waters with seas of 6 to 8 ft expected outside of the Bahamas. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ013...N CENTRAL GULF INCLUDING FLOWER GARDEN BANKS MARINE SANCTUARY...
