000 AGXX40 KNHC 191709 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 109 PM EDT Tue Sep 19 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... A thermal trough will develop each evening over the NW Yucatan Peninsula, move W-NW across the SW Gulf during the overnight hours and dissipate by late each morning, accompanied by a moderate to locally fresh NE-E-SE wind shift and brief seas to 5 ft. A 1015 mb surface high will meander over the N-Central waters through Thu night then shift N and inland Louisiana on Fri accompanied 1 to 3 ft seas. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Marine interests should monitor the latest bulletins from NHC concerning major hurricane Maria currently over the NE Caribbean, and forecast to track W-NW across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico with seas in excess of 35 ft. Expect conditions across the NE passages to diminish to 20 kt or less and seas subside to less than 8 ft on Fri morning. Elsewhere, generally moderate trade winds across the Caribbean will persist through the next several days. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Surface data indicates that an area of 8-10 ft seas continues across the waters N of 27N primarily in N swell from tropical cyclone Jose which is centered well N of 31N. Further S, feeder bands associated with major hurricane Maria are observed S of 21N and moving through the Virgin Islands. The forecast is for hurricane conditions to arrive in the waters adjacent to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by this evening, with these conditions shifting WNW with hurricane conditions possible for the Turks/Caicos and southern Bahamas by late Thu. Afterward, the forecast calls for Maria to turn toward the N in response to a weakness in the subtropical ridge. This track keeps the center of Maria E of the central and northern Bahamas. Given that track and intensity errors increase farther into the future, marine interests throughout the region should continue monitoring the latest bulletins issued by the National Hurricane Center on Hurricane Maria. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
