000 AGXX40 KNHC 131841 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 241 PM EDT Wed Sep 13 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... A fairly weak pressure pattern left behind by Irma over the Gulf will result in mainly gentle to moderate winds and seas 1 to 3 ft the next several days. The only exception will be a thermal trough moving off the Yucatan Peninsula each night supporting locally fresh winds starting Thursday night with seas briefly reaching 4 to 5 ft over the eastern Bay of Campeche. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Hurricane Jose is centered roughly 445 nm ENE of the SE Bahamas late this morning. It is moving SE at 6 kt, with maximum sustained of 65 kt gusts to 80 kt. Jose is forecast to make a clockwise loop over the next few days to the north of the area before finally moving NW to N later this week as a tropical storm. As the cyclone makes its southern portion of the loop over the next few days, large swell is expected to propagate through the Atlantic zones north of 20N. Elsewhere, a tropical wave is near near 69W will reach the central Caribbean Thursday through Friday night, and move across the western Caribbean Saturday through Sunday night. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will accompany the wave. Another tropical wave is expected to near 55W Saturday night, and move through the Tropical N Atlantic through Sunday night through Monday night. Guidance suggests that a tight gradient associated with the wave may bring strong NE to E winds along with seas of 8-9 ft over a portion of the far eastern Tropical N Atlantic zones in the general area from 15N to 19N between 55W and 58W on Monday night. Across the remainder of the Caribbean, a weak pressure pattern due to Jose to the north will result in mainly gentle to moderate winds through Thursday night. High pressure will begin to build SSW across thew central Atlantic by Friday which will increase trades slightly, and bring fresh easterlies along the northern coast of Colombia and Venezuela at night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Hurricane Jose is currently about 445 nm ENE of the SE Bahamas, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kt gusts to 80 kt, will track in a clockwise loop during the next few days. It will will move to near 25.2N 65.5W tonight, with maximum sustained winds 65 kt with gusts to 80 kt, then maintain intensity as it reaches near 25.1N 66.2W early Thursday, near 25.5N 67.5W early Thursday night, near 26.4N 69.0W early on Friday, then weaken to a tropical storm as it nears 28.5N 71.5W early on Saturday. Jose is then forecast to reach near 31.5N 70.5W early on Sunday before lifting N of the forecast waters during Sunday morning. Jose will be a swell generator through the rest of the week and into the weekend, with seas in excess of 8 ft in mixed swell dominating the waters E of the Bahamas SE to the waters just N and NE of Puerto Rico. The swell will be slow in subsiding over the weekend, and will linger across the northern zones into early next week after the system exits the region. In the wake of Jose, a trough will extend from near 31N71W to the SE Bahamas and to southeastern Cuba through Monday. Central Atlantic high pressure will build southwestward to the eastern portion of the basin in the wake of Jose later this week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
