Tropical Depression Harvey is inland IN N Louisiana. The last scatterometer passes during the midnight hours still were showing fresh to strong winds in the north-central Gulf, that were associated with the circulation of Harvey. These winds were affecting mainly the waters N of 28N between 87W and 93W, with seas to 8 ft. Gentle to moderate winds are noted in the remainder of the Gulf, with the exception of light to gentle winds over the southwest Gulf. Seas are in the 6-8 ft over the northeast Gulf, 3-5 ft over the southeast and south-central Gulf, and 3-4 ft over the southwest Gulf. The winds and seas will diminsh gradually across the N-central and NE Gulf waters for the rest of the day today, while Harvey moves inland more and more. High pressure will build slowly across the Gulf through the remainder of the week, before a trough develops in the western Gulf this weekend. An area of low pressure may form in the southwestern Gulf along this trough by the weekend. Development, if any, of this system is expected to be slow to occur as the low moves slowly northward. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... The scatterometer data from the early morning hours were showing fresh to locally strong winds over the south-central Caribbean, including the Gulf of Venezuela, with moderate to locally fresh winds over the remainder of the central Caribbean, and in the Gulf of Honduras. Gentle to moderate winds currently are observed elsewhere, including in the Tropical North Atlantic waters. The altimeter passes were indicating seas of 5-7 ft in the south-central Caribbean. Seas are in the 4-6 ft in the remainder of the central Caribbean, and in the Tropical North Atlantic waters, with seas of 3-4 ft elsewhere. A weak ridge N of the area will support pulsing fresh to strong trade winds off the coast of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia each night. Seas will build to 6-8 ft toward the early morning hours with the strongest winds. Moderate to fresh winds are expected across the Gulf of Honduras at night through the forecast period. Gentle to moderate NE-E winds and seas in the 4-6 ft range will prevail across the Tropical N Atlantic waters through the upcoming weekend. Looking ahead: Hurricane Irma will approach the Tropical North Atlantic zone and be located near 15.0N 55.0W by early on Tuesday. The current forecast calls for tropical storm and hurricane conditions possible Mon night into Tue across forecast zones AMZ027 and AMZ037. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front has reached the north waters and passes through 31N57W to 27N67W and 27N72W. The front becomes stationary and it continues to the coast of NE Florida. Moderate to fresh winds are noted ahead of the front over the NE waters, with seas to 8 ft based on altimeter data. The front will continue to move across the N waters during the rest of the day today while weakening. Then, weak high pressure in the wake of the front will dominate the area during the remainder of the week. Expect mainly light to gentle winds across the N waters and seas of 4-6 ft in N-NE swell, under the influence of this system. Expect fresh to locally strong winds just N of Hispaniola, including the approaches to the Windward Passage each evening through Saturday.
