Tropical Storm Harvey has moved inland into western Louisiana. Outside the influence of Harvey, recent scatterometer data along with ship and buoy data depict gentle to moderate winds over the eastern Gulf with light to gentle winds over the southwest Gulf. Seas are in the 4-6 ft over the northeast Gulf, 1-3 ft over the southeast Gulf, and 3-4 ft over the southwest Gulf. As Harvey moves further inland, winds and seas will gradually diminish across the NW and N-central Gulf waters late today into Thursday. High pressure will slowly build back across the Gulf through the remainder of the week before a trough develops over the western Gulf this weekend. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Recent scatterometer data along with ship and buoy data depict moderate to fresh winds over the central Caribbean, moderate winds over the eastern Caribbean, with gentle to moderate winds over the western Caribbean and tropical north Atlantic waters. Seas are in the 4-6 ft over the central Caribbean, 4-5 ft over the eastern Caribbean, 3-4 ft over the western Caribbean, and 4-6 ft over the tropical north Atlantic waters. A weak ridge N of the area will support pulsing fresh to strong trade winds off the coast of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia each night. Seas will build to 6-8 ft toward the early morning hours with the strongest winds. Moderate to fresh winds are expected across the Gulf of Honduras at night through the forecast period. Gentle to moderate NE-E winds and seas in the 4-6 ft range will prevail across the Tropical N Atlantic waters through the upcoming weekend. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface trough extends over the northwest waters while a ridge along 25N dominates the remainder of the forecast region. Recent scatterometer data along with ship and buoy observations depict moderate to fresh winds over the waters north of 28N and east of 75W, with gentle to moderate winds prevailing elsewhere. Seas are in the 5-6 ft range over the area of moderate to fresh winds, 3-5 ft elsewhere outside the Bahamas, and 1-3 ft west of the Bahamas. The ridge will retreat eastward today as a cold front reaches the forecast waters N of 28N-29N today into early Thursday while gradually weakening.
