000 AGXX40 KNHC 300742 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 342 AM EDT Wed Aug 30 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... Tropical Storm Harvey is over the northwest Gulf waters. At 30/0600 UTC, it is located near 29.2N 93.5W, moving NE or 035 degrees at 6 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 995 mb. Maximum sustained winds are 40 kt with gusts to 50 kt. The most recent scatterometer pass shows the well defined cyclonic circulation associated with Harvey, and indicates winds of 20-30 kt covering the Gulf waters N of 26N W of 90W. Buoy observations are showing seas to 12 ft within about 90 nm S semicircle and 30 nm NE quadrant of Harvey. The center of Harvey is expected to move inland over the northwestern Gulf Coast/southwestern Louisiana later this morning. No significant change in strength is anticipated before the center crosses the coast, but gradual weakening should begin thereafter. Outside the influence of Harvey, recent scatterometer data along with ship and buoy observations depict gentle to moderate winds over the eastern Gulf, and light to gentle winds over the southwest Gulf. Seas are in the 3-5 ft range over the eastern Gulf, and 1-3 ft over the southwest Gulf. As Harvey moves inland, winds and seas will gradually diminish across the NW and N-central Gulf waters late today into Thursday. High pressure will slowly build back across the Gulf through the remainder of the week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Scatterometer and surface data provided observations of moderate to fresh winds across the south-central Caribbean and over the Gulf of Honduras while gentle to moderate winds prevail elsewhere. A weak ridge N of the area will support pulsing fresh to strong trade winds off the coast of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia each night. Seas will build to 6-8 ft toward the early morning hours with the strongest winds. Moderate to fresh winds are expected across the Gulf of Honduras at night through the forecast period. Gentle to moderate NE-E winds and seas in the 4-6 ft range will prevail across the Tropical N Atlantic waters through the upcomimg weekend. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface trough extends over the northwest waters while a ridge along 27/28N dominates the remainder of the forecast region. Recent scatterometer data along with ship and buoy observations depict moderate to fresh winds across the north-central waters N of 30N. Light to gentle winds are noted along the ridge axis with gentle to moderate winds elsewhere. Seas are in the 5-6 ft range in the area of moderate to fresh winds, 3-5 ft elsewhere outside the Bahamas, and 1-3 ft west of the Bahamas. The ridge will retreat eastward today as a large low pressure system (previously associated with Potential Tropical Cyclone Ten) clips the northern forecast waters. The associated cold front will also reach the forecast waters N of 28N-29N today into early Thursday while gradually weakening. Then, weak high pressure in the wake of the front will dominate the area the remainder of the week. Under the influence of this system, expect mainly light to gentle winds across the N waters and seas of 4-6 ft in N-NE swell. Farther south, expect fresh to locally strong winds just N of Hispaniola, including the approaches to the Windward Passage each evening beginning today through Saturday. Gentle to moderate winds will prevail elsewhere. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ013...N CENTRAL GULF INCLUDING FLOWER GARDEN BANKS MARINE SANCTUARY...
