000 AGXX40 KNHC 270712 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 312 AM EDT Sun Aug 27 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... Tropical Storm Harvey is well inland over Texas near 29.3N 97.4W at 27/0600 UTC, and is producing tropical storm force winds within 50 nm N semicircle, 100 nm SE quadrant and 30 nm SW quadrant. The most recent scatterometer pass indicates southerly winds of 20-30 kt mainly over the coastal waters N of 27N W of 94W. Based on buoy observations seas are up to 7 ft over the same area. On the forecast track, the center of Harvey is expected to remain inland over southeastern Texas through Monday. Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Harvey is likely to weaken to a tropical depression later today. The proximity of Harvey to the coast will produce fresh to strong southerly winds north of 26N and west of mainly 94W through mid- week. These winds will support seas of 8-9 ft through Tuesday night. Farther east, an elongated area of low pressure persists across north-central Florida. This system is forecast to move over the western Atlantic later today. A trough will extends from the low center across Florida into the NE Gulf through Monday evening. Doppler Radar shows bands of showers with embedded tstms associated with the circulation of this elongated area of low pressure affecting the eastern Gulf waters mainly from 25N-28N E of 84W. Winds and seas could be higher near tstms. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to locally strong winds will pulse off the coast of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia through this morning with seas reaching 7-8 ft. Mainly fresh E-SE winds are expected across the Gulf of Honduras this evening and tonight. The ridge to the north supporting these winds will weaken through early next week as a low pressure crosses the western Atlantic waters. Expect increasing trade winds off the coast of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia Tuesday night into Wednesday as the ridge N of area restrengthens. At that time, marine guidance suggests winds of 20-25 kt and builging seas to 8 ft. These marine conditions will persist on Thursday. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Recent scatterometer data provide observations of mainly gentle to moderate winds across the SW N Atlantic, with the exception of moderate to locally fresh winds across the waters S of 22N, incluging the approaches to the Windward Passage, and fresh southerly winds just E of the north and central east coast of Florida as well as over the NW Bahamas. These winds are associated with the circulation of an elongated area of low pressure located over north-central Florida, and are forecast to further increase to 20-25 KT across forecast zone AMZ111 tonight, with seas building to 6-7 ft mainly N of 29N. These marine conditions, are expected to persist through Monday night over the NW waters as the low pressure moves NE and away from the forecast area. As previously mentioned, an elongated area of low pressure remains across north-central Florida. This system is forecast to move over the western Atlantic later today, and has the potential to become a tropical or subtropical depression during the next few days, before it merges with a cold front by mid- week.
