000 AGXX40 KNHC 262226 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 319 AM EDT Sat Aug 26 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... Harvey, as category 4 hurricane, made landfall between Port Arkansas and Port O'Connor Texas at 0300 UTC. At 26/0600 UTC... Harvey is inland near 28.2N 97.0W, moving toward the NW, or 325 degrees, at 5 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 942 mb. Maximum sustained winds are 110 kt with higher gusts. The tropical cyclone is expected to slow its forward motion and move slowly over southeastern Texas during the next couple of days. Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours while the center of Harvey is over southeastern Texas. Tropical storm conditions are still possible across forecast zone GMZ011 today. Buoys located across the NW Gulf are reporting winds of 30-40 kt and seas up to 17 ft. Seas will gradually subside across the NW Gulf this weekend as Harvey remains inland. See hurricanes.gov for the latest information on Harvey. Farther east, a trough of low pressure persists over the eastern Gulf with a weak 1012 mb low pressure over central Florida. This system is forecast to move northeastward and emerge over the western Atlantic this weekend. This will have minimal impact on winds and seas across the Gulf waters. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Recent scatterometer data indicate fresh to strong easterly winds across the south-central Caribbean, and fresh to strong SE winds across the western Caribbean mainly S of 20N and W of 85W, including the Gulf of Honduras with seas of 7-9 ft. Gentle to moderate winds were noted elsewhere with seas of 4-6 ft across the remainder of the central Caribbean and 3-5 ft over the eastern and western Caribbean. Seas of 4-5 ft are in the Yucatan Channel with moderate SE winds. Fresh to locally strong winds will pulse off the coast of northwest Venezuela and northeast Colombia the next several nights with building seas to 8-9 ft by morning. Fresh to strong E-SE winds are expected across the Gulf of Honduras this evening and tonight. Little change is expected elsewhere through the next several days. In the Tropical N Atlantic waters expect gentle to moderate trades and seas in the 4-6 ft range through the forecast period. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The ridge over the area has started to retreat eastward as a surface trough has moved into the northwest portion of the forecast region. Recent scatterometer data provide observations of mainly light to gentle winds across the SW N Atlantic, with the exception of moderate to locally fresh winds across the south waters and just N of Hispaniola, incluging the approaches to the Windward Passage, and also across forecast zone AMZ127. Moderate to fresh southerly winds are observed just E of the Florida Peninsula. These winds are expected to further increase to 20-25 KT across forecast zone AMZ111 by late Sunday or Sunday night, with seas building to 5-6 ft. These marine conditions, associated with a low pressure moving across the NW waters this weekend could also impact parts of forecast zone AMZ113 on Monday. The area of low pressure located over the central Florida is forecast to move northeastward and emerge over the western Atlantic this weekend where some development is expected through early next week before it merges with a front.
