000 AGXX40 KNHC 200813 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 413 AM EDT Sun Aug 20 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... A few showers and thunderstorms are active across the Straits of Florida this morning, on the southeast side of an upper low centered over the eastern Gulf near 24N85W. This weather will move with the upper low as it tracks WNW toward the Texas coast through mid week. Meanwhile the remnants of Harvey in the Caribbean will move across the Yucatan peninsula through Tue, increasing winds slightly in the Straits of Florida into south central Gulf Mon and Tue, as well as bringing active weather along with fresh winds to the Bay of Campeche Wed and Thu. Elsewhere, weak ridging will persist across the northern Gulf or along the northern coast, maintaining light to gentle winds and slight seas. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave continues to move westward through the northwest Caribbean, supporting scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf of Honduras. The tropical wave will move west of the area through late Mon. Farther east, the remnants of former T.S. Harvey are centered over the central Caribbean between Haiti and northeast Colombia 14.3N 71.8W. Disorganized thunderstorm activity continues to pulse, but it is not clear there is a closed circulation at this time at the surface. At any rate, the remnants of Harvey be accompanied by scattered thunderstorms, along with fresh to strong winds and seas of 8 to 9 ft on its northern periphery as it continues to move WNW through the northwest Caribbean through early Tue. Moderate to fresh easterly trade winds will follow in the wake of the remnants of Harvey across the Caribbean, and following another tropical wave in the eastern Caribbean moving across the central Caribbean through mid week. A third tropical wave will pass 55W Tue, and enter the eastern Caribbean early Wed. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Scattered showers and thunderstorms are active from the Straits of Florida to across the northern Bahamas. A tropical wave follows the upper low over the western Cuba. Another upper low is centered north of the Mona Passage near 22N67W. This is supporting scattered showers and thunderstorms along a surface trough reaching from the Leeward Islands northward to 24N along 65W. Ridging between the trough and the tropical wave exiting west of the region is supporting fresh to strong winds off Hispaniola into the entrances of the Windward Passage. The trough along 65W and associated weather will move WNW, eventually reaching the southern Bahamas and Turks/Caicos tonight, bringing strong winds and building seas to the area S of 25N through mid week.
