Tropical Storm Franklin will intensify while moving W-NW across the SW gulf waters becoming a minimal hurricane late this afternoon, and moving inland Mexico tonight. Winds will diminish to 20 kt or less, and seas will subside to less than 8 ft by late Thu night. A surface ridge will meander westward from the Florida Big Bend across the Northern Coastal Waters and Coastal Plains, with a surface high developing along the ridge during the late afternoons as a N to S orientated thermal trough develops over interior Florida. A thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula during the evenings beginning on Thu, move slowly westward during the overnight hours, and dissipate over the SW Gulf by late each morning. Expect a fresh to locally strong NE-E-SE wind shift, and 3-5 ft seas, along this trough. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Fresh to locally strong nocturnal trades are expected along the N coasts of Colombia and Venezuela to include the Gulf of Venezuela, resulting in seas to 8 ft propagating W across the SW Caribbean between 11N and 14N. Strong E trades will develop along the southern tip of Hispaniola on Thu night and Sun night. Extended model guidance is suggesting that the pressure gradient will tighten on Mon night with fresh to strong trades developing across the entire Caribbean to the S of 18N on Tue. An area of fresh NE-E winds and seas to 7 ft are shifting W across the tropical waters E of the Leewards in association with a tropical wave that will pass through the Lesser Antilles this evening, pass through the Central Caribbean on Thu and Fri, then slow somewhat as it continues through the w Caribbean during the upcoming weekend. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge will meander from near Bermuda to NE Florida today, then shift S to across the northern Bahamas briefly on Thu, then shift back N again on Fri. A tropical wave will pass through the Virgin Islands tonight into Thu, reach the Atlc approach to Mona Passage on Thu night and Fri, and pass through the Atlc approach to the Windward Passage on Fri night and Sat. The northern extent of this wave will shift W through the Old Bahama Channel on Sat night through Sun night, accompanied by a fresh NE-E-SE wind shift.
