000 AGXX40 KNHC 230727 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 327 AM EDT Sun Jul 23 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The typical thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula each late afternoon-evening through midweek, before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night, drifting westward during the overnight hours, then dissipating over the SW Gulf each morning. A surge of mainly fresh NE winds will accompany this trough. Seas will briefly build to 4 to 6 ft with these winds. A weaker thermal trough is expected by the end of the week. Otherwise, a ridge stemming from high pressure in the SE Gulf is dominating the basin. The ridge is building westward and winds will increase to moderate to locally fresh across much of the SW and W Gulf through the day. Seas will also build to 3 to 5 ft across this area as well. Otherwise, gentle to moderate winds and seas of 1 to 3 ft will prevail. These conditions will then persist through Tuesday night. The pressure gradient will slacken thereafter as a trough or weak front passes into the NE Gulf. Gentle winds and seas of 2 ft or less will then prevail across the basin by the end of the week. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Recent observations show fresh to strong trades in the central Caribbean, and mainly moderate to fresh trades elsewhere. Seas are 6 to 9 ft in the central Caribbean, and mainly 3 to 5 ft elsewhere, except 2 to 4 ft in lee of Cuba and the lee of Lesser Antilles. A tropical wave near 80W/81W will will enter central America tonight through Monday. This will allow for the Atlantic ridge to build slightly across the basin with more easterly flow basin wide, with the strongest winds and highest seas remaining across the central portion of the basin. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure ridging will continue to control the sensible weather for the next several days. Mainly moderate anticyclonic winds around the ridge, which will linger between 27N and 29N, except in the waters S of 22N and W of 65W where trades will pulse to fresh to strong from N of Hispaniola to the Windward Passage during the evening hours through midweek. Seas will be mainly 3 to 5 ft, except 2 ft or less in the lee of the Bahamas, and 5 to 7 ft occasionally N of Hispaniola to the Windward Passage. The northern portion of a tropical wave with energy and moisture will move WNW across the SE waters through the morning, then across the SE then central Bahamas Sunday night through Tuesday with a slight increase in winds and seas behind it. The pressure gradient will weaken slightly by the end of the week allowing for gentle to moderate winds and seas of 3 to 5 ft to dominate across the open waters of the basin. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
