A ridge will dominate the Gulf waters through the week producing gentle to moderate winds and seas generally under 4 ft, with the exception of variable winds and seas of 1-2 ft over the NE Gulf where a weak high pressure center will prevail. A thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula during the evening hours before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. Then, the trough will drift westward during the overnight hours, and dissipate over the SW Gulf each morning. Seas will briefly build to 4-5 ft. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Tropical Storm Don is moving across the Tropical North Atlantic forecast waters. The pressure gradient between the storm and the Atlantic high pressure is producing an area of fresh to strong winds to the north of Don. Recent scatterometer data comfirmed the presence of these winds affecting the waters from 12N to 21N between 50W and 61W. Seas are near 9 ft within this area of winds based on an altimeter pass. The center of Don will move across the Windward Islands later today or tonight, and then continue westward across the southeastern Caribbean Sea on Wednesday while dissipating. Scatterometer data also indicate fresh to strong winds across the south-central Caribbean, where seas are up to 12 ft (based on a recent altimeter pass), and in the Gulf of Honduras. As tropical cyclone Don (or its remnants) moves into the Caribbean Sea of Wednesday, the area of fresh to strong winds will expand, covering most of the forecast waters s OF 17.5N and E of 82W with seas of 8-11 ft, highest across the south-central Caribbean. Then, the aerial extend of the winds will decrease on Thursday. Fresh to strong winds are expected again this evening in the Gulf of Honduras. A tropical wave along 65W will reach the central Caribbean Wednesday morning and the western Caribbean on Friday morning. Another tropical wave, currently located well east of the Lesser Antilles will enter the Tropical North Atlantic forecast zones on Friday morning. ..SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge, with axis along 29N/30N will dominate the forecast region through the week. Latest satellite derived winds and seas along with ship, buoy, and CMAN data depict moderate to fresh winds over the southeast waters with gentle to moderate winds prevailing elsewhere. Seas are in the 3-4 ft range over the northern waters, 4-6 ft over the southern waters outside the Bahamas, and 1-3 ft west of the Bahamas. As tropical cyclone Don continues on a westward track, expect moderate to fresh winds across the southest waters through Wednesday.
