A ridge, with axis across the northern Gulf, will continue to dominate the area through Sunday. This will result in gentle to moderate E to SE winds and seas of 4 ft or less across much of the Gulf. Light to gentle winds and seas of 2 ft or less are noted over the NE Gulf due to the presence of a 1020 mb high pressure along the ridge axis. This system will remain nearly stationary over the next 48 hours. Gentle to moderate easterly winds and seas of 3-5 ft are expected across the Straits of Florida through Sunday under the influence of this ridge. Meanwhile a thermal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to locally strong winds will accompany this trough. Seas will briefly build to 5-6 ft in association with these winds. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... An ASCAT pass provides observations of fresh to strong winds across the central Caribbean, and in the Gulf of Venezuela. A ridge north of area will continue to support fresh to strong winds across the south-central Caribbean through Fri night, with seas building up to 11 ft this morning, and Friday morning. Then, mainly fresh winds are expected Saturday through Monday as the ridge north of area weakens, and a weak low or trough, likely the remnants of T.D. Four moves first NE of the Leeward Islands during the upcoming weekend, then north of Puerto Rico early next week. Elsewhere, expect moderate to fresh winds across the remainder of the central Caribbean begining tonight, and gentle to moderate winds over the eastern and western Caribbean. Moderate to fresh winds are expected over the Tropical North Atlantic forecast zones. Seas are in the 4-6 ft over the eastern and western Caribbean, and 5-7 ft over the tropical north Atlantic forecast zones. These general marine conditions will prevail through the end of the week. ..SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge, with axis across the north waters, continues to dominate the area. Recent scatterometer data and buoy observations depict light to gentle winds across the ridge axis, and gentle to moderate winds elsewhere, with the exception of moderate to locally fresh winds across the Old Bahamas Channel, and fresh winds just north of Hispaniola, including the approach to the Windward Passage. Seas are in the 3-4 ft range over the northern waters, 4-6 ft over the southern waters outside the Bahamas, and 1-3 ft west of the Bahamas. The ridge will persist over the northern waters through the forecast period, with litlle change in the marine conditions. Periods of fresh to strong winds can be expected each evening along the northern coast of Hispaniola. Winds are forecast to increase to 20 kt with seas to 8 ft across forecast zone AMZ127 Satuday and Saturday night as a weak low or trough, likely the remnants of T.D.
