000 AGXX40 KNHC 021825 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 225 PM EDT Sun Jul 2 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Weak ridging will persist across the northern Gulf through the late next week. This will result in light to gentle breezes and slight seas across the eastern Gulf, and moderate SE winds with 2 to 4 ft over most of the western Gulf. The gradient between the ridge and a series of troughs or tropical waves farther south will support occasional moderate east winds over the Straits of Florida. Meanwhile a thermal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong winds will accompany this trough. Seas will briefly build to 6-7 ft in association with these winds. The northern portion of a tropical wave now over Belize will move across the far SW Gulf through early next week, supporting scattered showers and thunderstorms. Winds and seas could be locally higher near the thunderstorms. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave south of Puerto Rico will continue westward through the central Caribbean through mid week. Strong to near gale force sustained winds over the south central Caribbean, with frequent gusts to gale force, are diminishing as the pressure gradient relaxes slightly ahead of the approaching tropical wave. The stronger winds rebound farther east off the Venezuela coast and ABC islands by Tue behind the tropical wave, then expand west to the Colombian coast by mid week as the tropical wave continues westward. Seas are currently 8 to 11 ft over most of the central Caribbean. Wave heights subside through Tue slightly but build again through late week. Looking ahead, winds and seas will start to increase by late Fri east of the Windward Islands ahead of a vigorous tropical wave and attendant surface low pressure area, currently in the tropical eastern Atlantic. ..SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A ridge extending along roughly 28N to 30N will maintain light to gentle winds and slight seas N of 25N, and moderate to fresh easterly winds and 3 to 5 ft in open waters S of 25N through mid week, with strong winds and seas to 6 ft pulsing off the north central coast of Hispaniola each evening. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
