000 AGXX40 KNHC 301830 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 230 PM EDT Fri Jun 30 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Weak ridging extending from central Florida to coast of South Texas is maintaining gentle breezes with 1 to 3 ft seas over the eastern Gulf, and moderate to occasionally fresh southeast winds over the western Gulf with 4 to 6 ft seas. High pressure will form over the northeast Gulf tonight and Saturday, maintaining near calm to gentle breezes and slight seas over the northeast Gulf, but supporting moderate to fresh east winds across the Straits of Florida by Sat night. Little change in the weather pattern and marine conditions are expected through the upcoming weekend as a ridge persists across the Gulf waters. A thermal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong winds will accompany this trough. Seas will briefly build to 6-7 ft in association with these winds. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave passing south of Hispaniola will move across the western Caribbean through Sun. Ridging building in the wake the of the tropical wave will allow trade wind flow to increase over primarily the south central Caribbean Sat, then extending into the southwest Caribbean through Sun. A second tropical wave will pass 55W tonight or early Sat, then enter the eastern Caribbean early Sun. The tropical wave will continue through the central Caribbean early next week, allowing trade winds to diminish slightly for a brief period of time late Mon, before increasing again Mon night and Tue. The strongest winds will as usual be off the coast of Colombia mainly at night, as well pulsing off Cabo Beata on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. A third tropical wave will approach 55W late Mon, and enter the eastern Caribbean late Tue. ..SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Weak ridging along roughly 29N will maintain gentle to moderate breezes north of 25N through early next week with 2 to 4 ft seas. The ridge will support moderate to at times fresh easterly winds south of 25N, with 4 to 6 ft seas in open waters. Occasionally strong east winds will pulse off the north coast of Hispaniola over the next couple of nights with 5 to 7 ft seas.
