000 AGXX40 KNHC 291803 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 203 PM EDT Thu Jun 29 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A few showers and thunderstorms linger over the coastal waters of the northern Gulf from east Texas to the Florida Panhandle along a surface trough positioned just inland. Thunderstorms over the far northwest Gulf are being enhanced by a weakening upper trough over Texas. Weak ridging extending from the western Atlc across the Florida peninsula to northeast Mexico is maintaining light to gentle breezes and slight seas over the eastern Gulf, and generally moderate southerly flow and 3 to 5 ft seas over the western Gulf, except moderate to fresh over the northwest Gulf. Little change through early next week as ridging builds across the northern Gulf. Meanwhile, Yucatan diurnal thermal trough will yield strong winds across N and NW peninsula waters, with potential to increase seas briefly to 7 ft. Somewhat similar conditions to continue into the weekend as a weak high settles into the far NE Gulf and the frontal boundary retreats northwest into the Central Plains. Winds will back to SE and focus highest winds and seas W portions. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A large area of showers and thunderstorms is ongoing from NE Colombia through the Virgin Islands, due to a vigorous tropical wave moving through the eastern Caribbean, supported by an upper low centered off the northeast coast of Hispaniola. Gusty winds area possible over the NE Caribbean and Leeward Islands near these thunderstorms. The tropical wave will move will move across the western Caribbean through Sat, with the associated weather shifting into Hispaniola tonight and Fri. Another tropical wave in the tropical Atlc will move W of 55W Fri, enter the eastern Caribbean Sat, and move across the remainder of the Caribbean through early next week. Atlc ridge will build W into Bahamas over the weekend to bring a return of fresh to strong trades across entire central Caribbean through Mon. ..SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A stationary front is dissipating from 31N72W to NE Florida. The boundary layer ridge reaches along roughly 28N/29N, and related weak overrunning is supporting scattered scattered showers N of 27N. The Atlc ridge will build modestly westward along 28-29N Fri- Sat and support moderate to fresh trades S of 24N, except for strong diurnal enhancement along N coastal waters of Hispaniola late afternoon and evenings.
