000 AGXX40 KNHC 241724 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 124 PM EDT Sat Jun 24 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... An E to W ridge extends W-SW across the northern coastal waters to over the Tx coastal bend. A surface high will develop along the ridge, over the NE gulf waters late this afternoon. The high will shift W-NW along the ridge to over the MS Delta late Sun, effectively re-orientating the ridge SE to Fl Bay where it will meander through mid week. An inverted trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula during the late afternoons into the early evening hours, and move W-NW during the night hours, and dissipate over the SW Gulf by late each morning. Expect a moderate to locally fresh NE-E-E wind shift along the trough. An inverted trough will set up from near BRO Tx to the western Bay of Campeche late Sun, and then meander through mid week. Expect light northerly winds to SW of the trough. Otherwise, light winds forecast near the surface high and along the ridge axis, and light to moderate return flow elsewhere. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave along 67W will continue W across the central Caribbean through tonight accompanied by a slight fresh NE-E wind shift. A second tropical wave will pass 55W today, and enter the E Caribbean on Sun night, accompanied by SCT RW/ISOL RW. The pressure gradient is supporting a small area of strong NE-E trades along the NW coast of Colombia, and along the southern tip of Hispaniola. The gradient will tighten as the tropical waves move into Central Caribbean on Sun, with the area of strong trades, and seas to 11 ft, currently along Colombia expanding N across the waters from 11N-16N between 70W-79W on Sun night and Mon. Guidance is hinting at a broad area of low pressure developing over the SW Caribbean by mid week, with the strong trades then building W between 13N-16N to the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua as the northern extension of the waves move W-NW into Central America. ..SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A surface high is centered just s of Bermuda with a ridge extending W to the Port of Jacksonville, Fl. Fresh southerly winds, and 3-5 ft seas, are observed N of the ridge. The high will shift NE of the area on Sun, with a ridge extending SW from 31N60W to Port Canaveral, Fl. The ridge will retract E on Sun night as a weak cold front, preceded by moderate southerly winds, moves off the SE CONUS. The weak front will stall briefly from 31N79W to 29N80W on Mon evening, and then move E again late Mon night, reaching from 31N73W to Ft. Pierce Fl on Tue, then stall from Bermuda to the NW Bahamas on Wed into Thu. Expect moderate to locally fresh northerly winds behind the front. Moderate to fresh easterly trades expected S of the ridge, except increasing to a strong breeze along the N coast of Hispaniola and the Atlc approach to the Windward Passage during the late afternoons into early evenings. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
