000 AGXX40 KNHC 211815 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 215 PM EDT Wed Jun 21 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Tropical Storm Cindy was centered near 27.6N 92.6W 996 mb at 11 AM EDT and was moving NW or 310 deg at 9 kt, with maximum sustained winds 45 kt gusts to 55 kt. Cindy is forecast to continue moving NW and will move inland to near 30.3N 93.8W Thu morning. Large seas will continue near and well E of the cyclone center through Thu, as a large fetch of strong southerly winds continues over the central Gulf. Once inland, winds and seas will gradually diminish over the north central Gulf, with winds diminishing below 20 kt and seas below 8 ft by late Friday morning. Numerous showers and thunderstorms over the northwest gulf will taper off after landfall. However, a lingering long fetch of moist southerly flow with numerous showers and thunderstorms will likely persist over the central gulf, to the east of the landfall area, for a day or two after the system moves onshore. High pressure will build west from the Atlantic across the northern Gulf in the wake of Cindy and prevail through Sun night, with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds prevailing. A thermal trough will move off the Yucatan peninsula in the evenings and across the SW Gulf through the mornings beginning on Thursday. It will be followed by fresh to strong east to southeast winds Thursday, but mainly fresh winds thereafter. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... The remnants of former Tropical Storm Bret are analyzed as a tropical wave along 71W moving westward at around 20 kt. The tight pressure gradient between Atlantic high pressure and the lower pressures associated with the remnants supports 20 to 30 kt winds and seas of 8 to 14 ft over much of the central Caribbean today. The pressure gradient will weaken as the remnants and wave move westward toward the western Caribbean later tonight, resulting in a gradual diminishing of the winds over the area. By Friday morning the wave will be nearing central America, with winds having diminished to 20 kt or less and seas less than 8 ft over the central Caribbean. Strong southerly flow around the far periphery of Tropical Storm Cindy continues over the Yucatan Channel and NW Caribbean north of 19N and west of 83W. This moist fetch supports scattered showers and thunderstorms. This strong southerly flow will weaken through tonight as the storm moves NW and farther from the region. Mainly moderate to fresh trades will prevail Thursday night through Friday, until the Atlantic ridge shifts southward slightly, resulting in overnight pulsing strong easterlies near the coast of colombia Fri, Sat, and Sun night with seas reaching 9 ft. Another tropical wave along 55W will cross the Windward Islands Thursday and reach the central Caribbean late Saturday. Another more robust tropical wave will reach the tropical North Atlantic waters along 55W on Friday and the eastern Caribbean on Saturday with increasing moisture over the area. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Broad high pressure centered just east of Bermuda will remain anchored over the central Atlantic the next several days, with a ridge axis extending west-southwest across northern Florida. Only minor fluctuations in the positioning of the ridge axis are expected through the upcoming weekend. This pattern will support mainly moderate winds over the forecast zones through the next several days, except fresh to locally strong easterly winds along the northern coast of Hispaniola each afternoon and evening with seas temporarily reaching 8 ft. Seas of 3 to 5 ft will prevail over the open Atlantic waters. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ011...NW GULF INCLUDING STETSON BANK...
