000 AGXX40 KNHC 201848 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 248 PM EDT Tue Jun 20 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Several llvl vorts have been swirling about within elongated llvl trough across the central Gulf today, while gales and deep cnvtn continue to wrap around the NE and E periphery of this monsoonal depression. Morning SWH analysis suggested elongated zone of 12+ ft seas extending from just N of Yucatan Channel to offshore of mouth of MS river with recent altimeter pass showing seas 12-16 ft just SE of where models show a max of 16-20 ft. Recon is now investigating this system and is fixing the llvl vort that has drifted slightly SW today, and the PTC is now being named as TS Cindy. Forecast reasoning remains the same. Mid to upper trough to the immediate NW of Cindy will sink SW and allow Cindy to move NNW and inland near TX-LA border, likely in TX. Thus strongest wind and seas impacts will be across the water from the Panhandle to LA, with long SSE fetch across E half of basin continuing for next 2 days and maintaining high seas. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Tropical Storm Bret has become exposed under Sly shear today with a llvl vort seen near 11.5N66.5W and opening up and moving due W. Storm force winds continue across the N semicircle. A 12Z altimeter pass showed seas 12-15 ft S of 13N to the coast of Isla Margarita, and may have been a bit E of peak seas. Elsewhere strong trades prevailed across the central Carib as broad ridge prevails across the W Atlc, and strong SE to S flow continues to open up into the Gulf monsoon system. Seas where 8-10 ft across central portions and 8-11 ft across NW portions. Bret will likely weaken a bit more quickly than forecast as it moves WNW across the Srn Carib next few days. while Atlc ridging persists along 28-29N to maintain fresh to strong trades across central portions and moderate to fresh across NW part. Winds and seas will accompany Bret and remnants to produce atypically higher seas of 9-12 ft likely through Thu night. More typical conditions expected to continue across the tropical N Atlc waters as 2 tropical waves enter the region through the end of the week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Atlc high pressure ridge will remain the dominant feature across the basin through the forecast period. Ridge is currently along 30-31N and will shift slightly S to 28-29N by end of week. Fresh to locally strong trades to continue S of 23N with typical late afternoon-evening thermal pulsing across N coasts of the Greater Antilles and most noticeable N of Hispaniola. Sal moving into area N of Hispaniola and into the SE Bahamas leading to squalls and will propagate into SE FL next 24-36 hrs. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ011...NW GULF INCLUDING STETSON BANK...
