000 AGXX40 KNHC 090630 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 230 AM EDT Fri Jun 9 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A cold front drift across the southeast Gulf and South Florida will stall today. The front will eventually lift northward through Saturday at first as a warm front, but will eventually lose frontal characteristics and the airmass to the north of the boundary modifies. A weak pressure pattern is in place across the Gulf currently, supporting gentle to moderate east winds and 2 to 4 ft seas. The winds will veer more southeast as the frontal boundary starts to lift northward Saturday. The southeast winds will start to increase Saturday night from the south central Gulf to eventually the northwest Gulf, between building high pressure over the western Atlantic and weak troughing over the Yucatan peninsula and southwest Gulf. Seas will build to as high as 8 ft over the central Gulf by Monday. This pattern will weaken late Monday as the trough dampens out, but overnight fresh winds will likely pulse off the coast of the western Yucatan peninsula Monday night and Tuesday night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Weak ridging north of the area is maintaining relatively modest winds and seas over the Caribbean basin currently with scatterometer data and buoy observations indicating only 10 to 15 kt trade winds for the most part. Buoy observations and altimeter satellite data show 3 to 5 ft seas. A tropical wave is analyzed between Jamaica and western Colombia, and is expected to continue westward reaching between Grand Cayman and western Panama by late today, and west of the area Saturday. A second tropical wave east of the Windward Islands will pass west through the eastern Caribbean through tonight, the central Caribbean Saturday and Sunday, and through the southwest Caribbean early next week. The ridge north of the area will build today, allowing moderate to fresh trade winds over much of the Caribbean by tonight, with locally strong winds off northeast Colombia and northwest Venezuela. Winds will increase over the Gulf of Honduras Saturday night and Sunday night, between the ridge north of the area and the tropical wave moving across the southwest Caribbean and Central America Saturday and Sunday. Farther east, recent scatterometer data indicate fresh to strong trade winds over the tropical Atlantic following the tropical wave west of the Windward Islands, supporting 6 to 8 ft. These winds and seas will diminish through tonight and early Saturday as the tropical waves continues into the Caribbean. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A frontal boundary reaches from 31N75W to 1007 mb low pressure area centered near 30N78W, then on to West Palm Beach Florida. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are noted along and within 180 nm ahead of the front. The low pressure will lift northeast of the area this morning, leaving the front to stall and eventually start to drift north as warm front tonight, then weaken to trough Saturday. Strong southwest winds and seas to 8 to 10 ft are ongoing north of 29N and east of the front to 70W. This area of strong winds will diminish and lift north of the region by late today, leaving only the weak trough. Weak ridging will follow along roughly 28N to 29N, supporting gentle to moderate breezes and slight seas north of 22N through early next week. Fresh trade winds will occur south of 22N, becoming locally strong off the north coast of Hispaniola mainly at night. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
