A weak high pressure center will remain over the NE Gulf through the next 72 hours. This system extends a ridge across the Gulf waters, producing mainly gentle to moderate winds over the southeastern Gulf and light to gentle winds elsewhere. Seas are in the 1-2 ft range over the northeast Gulf, and 3-4 ft over the remainder of the Gulf waters. A thermally induced trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula late each afternoon. This trough will shift into the southwest Gulf each evening where it will dissipate each morning. A surge of moderate to fresh NE winds will accompany this trough. Winds are expected to increase to 15-20 kt across the NW waters on Saturday ahead of a weak cold front forecast to enter the NW Gulf by Saturday night. Fresh to strong northerly winds are expected behind the front with seas building to 6 ft. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Latest scatterometer data depict a small area of fresh to strong winds off the northwest coast of Colombia as well as in the Windward Passage. Gentle to moderate winds prevail over the remainder of Caribbean waters as well as the Tropical North Atlantic forecast zones. Seas are in the 6-7 ft range across the south-central Caribbean, 5-6 ft range over the remainder of the central Caribbean, 4-6 ft over the eastern Caribbean, 3-4 ft over the western Caribbean. Large northerly swell generated by a deep low pressure system over the central Atlantic is reaching the northern Tropical North Atlantic waters, with seas building to 10-11 ft across forecast zone AMZ027, and 8-10 ft across forecast zone AMZ025. This swell event will propagate across the southern waters of the Tropical North Atlantic today, raising seas up to 10 ft. Seas will subside from north to south to 8-9 ft on Wednesday. Seas over these waters are expected to subside below 8 ft by Wednesday night. The large swell will also seep through the Atlantic passages into the eastern Caribbean with seas building to 8 ft today and Wednesday. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure dominates the forecast waters. Latest scatterometer and surface data depict fresh to strong winds over the far southern waters, particularly S of 22N W of 68W. Moderate to fresh winds are noted over the central waters, and light to gentle winds over the northern waters. Outside the Bahamas, seas are in the 8-9 ft range over the southern waters, 6-8 ft over the central waters, and 5-7 ft across the north waters. High pressure will prevail over the forecast region through the week. Northeasterly swell generated from a deep low pressure system over the central Atlantic will continue to affect the southeast waters through midweek. Buoy 41043 located near 21N65W is reporting 11 ft while buoy 41044 located farther east near 21.5N58.5W is reporting 13 ft.
