000 AGXX40 KNHC 070753 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 353 AM EDT Fri Apr 7 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas. ...GULF OF MEXICO... Buoys off the southwest coast of Florida along with a recent altimeter pass in that area all indicate seas to 8 ft, likely in westerly swell brought about from fresh to strong winds following a cold front that now reaches from the Straits of Florida to the northeast point of the Yucatan peninsula. Winds and seas are diminishing elsewhere across the Gulf as high pressure builds into the northwest Gulf. The ridge will shift east across the Deep South, allowing for a weak pressure pattern to set up through maintaining gentle breezes and slight seas from late today through Saturday over most of the Gulf. Moderate to fresh southeast return flow will set up over the far northwest Gulf Sunday ahead of a cold front advancing through the southern Plains, becoming fresh easterly flow across the Gulf Monday as the front nears the Texas coast. The front will likely stall along the Gulf coast from Texas to Florida Tuesday, allowing for the possibility of fog near the coastal waters. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Strong high pressure northeast of the area supporting fresh to strong trade winds over the south central Caribbean is shifting farther east. This will allow winds and seas to diminish across the basin through early next week, although an area of strong winds and seas to 8 ft will linger off the coast of Colombia near Cartagena into early Sunday. Meanwhile a weak cold front will move into the far northwest Caribbean this morning, then stall from the Windward Passage to the Gulf of Honduras Saturday before becoming diffuse Sunday. The main impact of this front will be to serve as a focus for a few low topped showers through Saturday over the northwest Caribbean. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Strong thunderstorms persist just ahead of a strong cold front from 31N75W to the Upper Florida Keys. Winds are reaching near 30 kt ahead and behind the front north of 30N, with seas to 12 ft. The front will reach from Bermuda to eastern Cuba later today, followed by strong westerly winds north of 29N. The front will stall and weaken from 31N65W to the Windward Passage Saturday, allowing winds and seas to diminish through Sunday. High pressure building behind the front will maintain gentle to moderate breezes across the basin this weekend, increasing into early next week as weak troughing approaches the area from the east. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
