000 AGXX40 KNHC 011804 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 204 PM EDT Sat Apr 1 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... The pressure gradient will tighten through this evening across the western Gulf as deep low pressure over Texas moves northeast. This will support southeasterly winds increasing to 20 to 30 kt through the evening west of about 89W, and persisting throughout the day Sunday mainly north of 21N between 89W and 95W. Seas will build to 9 ft with these winds, mainly over the northern Gulf. A cold front associated with the low will enter the northwest Gulf Sunday night, with the strong southerly winds moving eastward ahead of the front. Thunderstorms and gusty shifting winds will be likely ahead of the front over the northern Gulf Sunday night through Monday. By Monday night the cold front is expected to reach from the Florida panhandle to north of the Yucatan Peninsula. Recent model runs indicate that the front will then lift northeast of the eastern Gulf by Tuesday, with high pressure and fair conditions settling across the Gulf briefly through Tuesday night. Another cold front will reach the northwest Gulf Wednesday night. Strong high pressure will build behind this cold front as the front reaches from the Florida Panhandle to Vera Cruz Thursday morning, then crossing the southeast Gulf Thursday night. Strong northerly winds are expected behind the front with seas building to 10 ft. The enhanced northwesterly winds near Vera Cruz caused by the strong ridge building southward over Mexico will reach near gale to gale force on Thursday. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure over the central subtropical Atlantic will support moderate to fresh trades over most of the Caribbean except fresh to strong trades over the Gulf of Honduras and over the south central Caribbean the next several days. Seas will peak near 9 to 10 ft north of the Colombia coast at night, when the strongest winds are forecast to occur. Large northerly swell of 8 to 10 ft is spreading over the tropical Atlantic waters this afternoon. This will continue through Monday before the swell diminishes below 8 ft. Additional northerly swell of 8 to 9 ft may reach the zones by Thursday. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front that extends from 31N72W to south Florida will continue to slide eastward the next few days, exiting the forecast zones by Tuesday. Strong southerly winds will persist within a few hundred nm east of the front mainly north of 30N, with periodic strong west to northwest winds north of 30N behind the front. Seas of 8 to 10 ft associated with the front and storm system to the north will affect the northeast zones through Tuesday. Another cold front will approach the southeastern United States on Monday. Increasing return flow well ahead of the front will produce 20 to 30 kt southerly winds across the northwest waters offshore north Florida Monday through Tuesday. Latest model trends show that the actual cold front may only clip the northwest zones before lifting northeast of the area. The winds east of the front will support seas of 8 to 10 ft. Elsewhere, large northwesterly swell across the central Atlantic is spreading across zone AMZ127 this afternoon and will continue to support seas greater than 8 ft through Monday morning. Another batch of large northerly swell will reach that zone on Wednesday. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO... .GMZ023...SW GULF S OF 22N W OF 94W...
