000 AGXX40 KNHC 191828 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 228 PM EDT Sun Mar 19 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... A cold front from central Florida to near New Orleans will move southeast over the eastern Gulf through tonight with moderate to fresh northerly winds north of the front. High pressure over the central Gulf will slide to the northeast Gulf on Monday and meander over the area through Wednesday. A thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula each afternoon and move westward over the Bay of Campeche at night. A fresh to strong northeast to east wind shift will occur with this trough each night this upcoming week. The high will dissipate later this week, while another high builds south from the eastern United States. This late week pattern will allow an increase of return flow over the western half of the Gulf. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A stationary front from east Cuba to the northeast corner of Nicaragua will slowly dissipate from west to east over the next 24 hours or so. Fresh northeast winds will continue north of the front through Monday. Fresh to strong winds will continue to pulse mainly during the overnight hours each night this week along the northeast coast of Colombia. Large trade wind swell over the Atlantic waters will diminish below 8 ft by tonight. High pressure currently over the central Gulf will expand eastward Monday night into Tuesday. This will increase northeast winds across Cuba and the Windward passage with winds peaking occasionally near 25 kt. Strong high pressure building over the western Atlantic late this week will re-enforce strong winds over the Lee of Cuba and Windward Passage. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A cold front over the northwest waters will move quickly southeast and extend from 29N65W to central Cuba Monday morning, then it will merge with a stationary front that currently extends from 26N65W to eastern Cuba by Monday afternoon. The front will then move eastward and stall from about 22N62W to 20N70W by Tuesday. Strong winds currently within a couple hundred miles east and west of the front will expand in coverage through tonight. As low pressure deepens north of the area this evening, northwest winds may increase to minimal gale force tonight north of 30N just west of the front, with a broad area of 20 to 30 kt winds north of 27N within about 400 nm west of the front tonight through Monday. Strong winds will continue mainly north of 28N east of the front as this portion exits our zones Monday afternoon. Seas east of the front across the northern zones will increase to 9 ft, while seas west of the front over the northern zones will increase to 8 to 14 ft. The highest seas will be located along the northern border of our area. Large swell from this frontal system will remain over the northwest zones into Wednesday morning. High pressure will build over the northwest waters Monday night through Tuesday night. Then, another cold front will begin to cross the northwest zones on Wednesday. The front will extend from Bermuda to central Florida Wednesday night and will then reach the southern zones by Thursday night.
