000 AGXX40 KNHC 130601 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 201 AM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Low pressure over the central Gulf will slowly move northeast over the next 24 hours along a stationary front that currently extends from central Florida to S Texas. Fresh to occasionally strong winds will persist near the low and across the northeastern Gulf through tonight. The low will cross into the Atlantic Tuesday morning as it merges with another low and develops into a Nor'easter off the eastern United States coast. As the low exits the Gulf it will drag a cold front across the central and eastern Gulf. The front will exit the basin late on Tuesday as the front enters the NW Caribbean, and high pressure builds across the basin from the north. Expect mainly moderate to fresh winds behind the front. On Wednesday and Thursday night, fresh to strong winds will develop over the eastern Bay of Campeche associated with a thermal trough. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Relatively weak high pressure north of the region will support moderate to fresh trade winds over the central and eastern Caribbean through mid week, except for pulses of 20 to 25 kt off Colombia. Seas will peak near 8 ft during these strong pulses. Easterly swell in excess of 8 ft will build over the tropical Atlantic waters late Tuesday. A cold front will enter the far northwest Caribbean late Tuesday, stalling from the Windward Passage to Belize Wednesday, and dissipating later in the week. Fresh to strong northerly winds are expected over much of the northwest Caribbean Wednesday through Friday as strong high pressure builds north of the region. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Low pressure developing over the northwestern waters will combine with a frontal boundary to its east to support increasing winds over the waters north of 27N through the day today. By tonight, gale force winds will develop mainly north of 30N to the east of about 75W, along and north of a warm front. As the low lifts north along the northeastern U.S. coast tonight into Tuesday, additional gales will develop just ahead of a cold front that will enter the northwestern waters Tuesday morning, extend from Bermuda to eastern Cuba Tuesday night, then from 28N65W to the Turks and Caicos by Wednesday night. The front will then stall out over the southeastern zones late this week. Latest model guidance suggests the gales that do develop late tonight ahead of the cold front may extend as far west as zone AMZ111. This trend will have to be monitored and a gale warning may have to be issued for this zone as well. Regardless, 25 to 30 kt winds with gusts to gale force are likely over the offshore waters of north Florida tonight and Tuesday. Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms will develop through today over the northern waters and persist over the area until the cold front finally dries out the region. Large swell greater than 8 ft generated by the storm system will persist over our waters into the latter parts of the week. In addition, large trade wind induced swell will spread across the southeastern zones starting tonight and persisting through the week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
