000 AGXX40 KNHC 101703 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 1203 PM EST Fri Mar 10 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... An upper level disturbance is enhancing scattered showers and a few thunderstorms off the coast of Texas and the Mexican state of Tamaulipas currently. Elsewhere, high pressure centered over the northeast Gulf is maintaining generally light breezes and slight seas across the basin. The high pressure will dissipate through tonight ahead of a weak cold front expected to enter the northeast Gulf Friday. The front will stall along 27N Saturday and drift north again Saturday night ahead of a weak low pressure area moving into the northwest Gulf by early Sunday. Fresh to strong northwest winds and a few showers and thunderstorms will accompany the front off the Texas coast, diminishing overnight Sunday night as the low shifts eastward along the northern Gulf. The low pressure will drag the front across the basin through late Monday. Reinforcing cold air will follow, bringing fresh to strong northerly winds across the northern portion of the basin into mid week. Meanwhile, farther south, a weak trough will develop off the northwest coast of the Yucatan peninsula tonight, allowing strong winds over portions of the southwest Gulf overnight, diminishing early tomorrow morning. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A 1420 UTC scatterometer pass indicated 20 to 25 kt off the coast of Colombia, with moderate to fresh trade winds elsewhere. The pass also noted strong winds are also still funneling through Atlantic passages in the Leeward and Windward Islands. But overall winds and seas are starting to gradually diminish across the Caribbean as strong high pressure north of the area weakens and shifts east. A front will enter the northwest Caribbean Tuesday, bringing fresh to strong northeast winds to the northwest Caribbean by mid week. Buoy observations indicate strong trade winds with 9 to 12 ft seas are possible over the tropical Atlantic west of 55W. These winds will diminish through tonight as the high pressure north of the area weakens and shifts east, but seas will remain in excess of 8 ft through late Sunday in the waters east of the Leeward and Windward Islands due to lingering trade wind swell. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Ridging along 28N will weaken and shift east through late today ahead of a cold front moving of the northeast Florida coast this evening. The front will reach from roughly Bermuda to east central Florida tonight followed by strong northerly winds. The winds diminish Saturday as the front stalls near 27N. The front will lift northward again and dissipate Sunday ahead of low pressure forming off the northeast Florida coast Monday and another low pressure area in the Gulf of Mexico approaching from the west. Strong southeast winds are possibly by late Monday over much of the area as these areas of low pressure deepen, merge and shift northeast. Southerly winds ahead of the low pressure may reach near gale force north of 28N between 65W and 70W by late Monday. Strong northwest winds will follow a trailing cold front sweeping the region Tuesday through mid week. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
