DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Erick was
located near latitude 17.0 North, longitude 159.2 West. Erick is
moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h). This general 
motion is expected to continue during the next couple of days, with
a loss of forward speed on Sunday.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.
Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Erick is
expected to become a post-tropical remnant low on Saturday. 
 
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km)
from the center.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches).

SURF: Swells generated by Erick will continue to affect portions
of the main Hawaiian Islands tonight.
